Violinist Danny Gu shared his special connection with soprano Jo Su-mi.
On the 27th, Danny Gu appeared as a guest on KBS1's 'Morning Field.'
That day, Danny Gu caught attention by naming Jo Su-mi as one of three people in his life who has created his positive energy. He explained about Jo Su-mi, saying, "She is my mentor in Korea. Whenever I have a big concern, I ask, 'Can I get some advice?' and she responds, 'Is this a good time?' When I call, we talk for an hour and a half or two hours, and she gives me a lot of advice."
He continued, "The first time I met her was when I was the MC for 'Art Stage.' While doing that, I had my first interview, and I felt lucky. She took good care of me. Since then, I have performed a lot, and I even composed pieces for her. We have become so close that every time I come to Korea, she is a mentor, teacher, and a figure like a teacher to me."
In particular, Danny Gu mentioned, "What I respect is that the classical side has a conservative mindset in broadcasting and various activities. However, from long ago, the person who has broken that mold is Jo Su-mi, and I have received a lot of that energy, enabling me to take various challenges more passionately."
In fact, Jo Su-mi pushed Danny Gu a lot regarding his broadcasting activities. Danny Gu said, "She told me, 'Someone like Danny needs to do this. You have to do this for our field. There should be someone playing this role.'"
He added, "Isn't there a worry about becoming negligent in your main occupation?" To that, he mentioned, "Jo Su-mi also said the same thing, but you can maintain that through practice. The mystery of classical music is your share. As Danny continues to live diligently, he should keep doing that steadily. She advised that to meet diverse audiences, he must actively take on many challenges."
