(Following Interview ②) Jeong Jong-yeon, the producer of 'Devil's Plan 2,' shared thoughts on the strong alliance between Super Junior's Kyuhyun, actress Yoon So-hee, and winner Jeong Hyun-kyu.
An interview with Jeong Jong-yeon, the producer of Netflix's original reality show 'Devil's Plan: Death Room' (abbreviated as 'Devil's Plan 2'), and winner Jeong Hyun-kyu was held at a café in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, on the morning of the 27th.
'Devil's Plan 2' is a brain survival game reality show where players from various professions stay together for seven days to determine the best brain. Jeong Hyun-kyu emerged as the winner after the 12th episode (final episode), which was released on the 20th. However, rather than respect for the winner, there remains stronger criticism towards the process. This is largely because Kyuhyun and Yoon So-hee, who had the strongest alliance with Jeong Hyun-kyu, displayed gameplay that seemed to sacrifice for Jeong Hyun-kyu, causing ongoing resentment.
Eventually, there are even rumors of a 'victory concession.' Jeong Jong-yeon noted, "There are episodes 11 and 12, and I entirely understand that Ms. Yoon So-hee maintained an alliance with the strategy of reaching the finale by episode 11." He added, "I was surprised when the last bet was given up during the recording of the finale. But after hearing the interviews, I thought that could be possible. I was also disappointed. Ultimately, a system that prevents such behavior is impossible in a survival context."
He continued, "In a way, each of Kyuhyun and Yoon So-hee's personalities comes into play. I knew all of that while casting them. A promise made once or the domain of keeping promises is very strong. It is not easy to overcome that, but the moment they decided to challenge themselves, which happens in society, they thought, 'Let's set that aside here,' was during episodes 9 to 10 when they moved to Seven High from Hyun-kyu and Hyun-jun." He commented, "It seemed like a moment when Kyuhyun went against his own character."
Jeong Jong-yeon emphasized, "However, it's a difficult decision. Changing the ways one has lived in society here is not easy. There are skilled players, and what this program demands 'to betray and lie solely for victory' is that difficult. Some players overcome that, while others find it challenging. Please pay attention to that part."
Furthermore, he added, "Therefore, players who go solely for victory, like Hyun-kyu, Hyun-jun, and Eun-yu, even if they are not such people in society, have had many players like Yoon So-hee and Kyuhyun in previous series. Some players found it easier to maintain their own standards instead of being bolder. Ultimately, the actions were within the design I created, so I hope you can view it generously. I wonder if you could think from that person's perspective."
