Namgoong-min conveys 'quiet love' through the character Lee Je-ha in 'Our Movie.'
The new SBS Friday-Saturday drama 'Our Movie' (directed by Lee Jung-heum, written by Han Ga-eun and Kang Kyung-min) will premiere on June 13 at 9:50 p.m. It tells the love story that cannot be postponed between Lee Je-ha (played by Namgoong-min), a film director with no future projects, and Lee Da-eum (played by Jeon Yeo-bin), an actor for whom today is the last.
The meeting of actor Namgoong-min (in the role of Lee Je-ha) and director Lee Jung-heum, who has created a syndrome with every character he played, raises expectations. Namgoong-min said, "Eight years ago, I worked with director Lee Jung-heum, and after discussing how to shoot and express emotions, I pondered for a few days. Then it struck me that it would be embarrassing as an actor to refuse this project. The script was written honestly, which is why I chose 'Our Movie.'
The character Lee Je-ha, whom Namgoong-min chose after deep consideration, is a genius film director who was once in the spotlight but is unable to release a new project due to the belief that all past glory was a lie. Namgoong-min described Lee Je-ha as "a character who appears to be a successful genius director outwardly, but internally carries deep wounds of emptiness and despair. If I were to express the character in keywords or genre, it would be 'quiet love' or 'a mellow story that provides gentle yet deep resonance.'
He added, "Though he struggles to convey his feelings through actions rather than words, and the expressions are awkward, his sincerity is deeper than anyone else. I find it truly moving to see him gradually crumble and change only in front of Lee Da-eum."
As Lee Je-ha is a character with a slightly different essence from previous roles, Namgoong-min said, "Lee Je-ha conveys feelings through his gaze and silence rather than words. He appears very calm and speaks little, but internally, he is constantly fighting. I paid a lot of attention to how to express unspoken emotions while acting."
Especially, he expressed, "I hope the quiet waves of Lee Je-ha reach the viewers even without loud sounds. It was more difficult to play, but I have developed a strong affection for the role." Namgoong-min's dedication and careful considerations for his performance raise anticipation for the character of Lee Je-ha.
Meanwhile, Namgoong-min, who has captivated viewers through strong synergy with SBS in 'Stove League' and 'One Thousand Won Lawyer,' disclosed, "Both Baek Seung-soo and Cheon Ji-hoon received a lot of love, so I was deeply concerned about whether I could convey the same level of immersion and emotion to the viewers this time." He emphasized, "Ultimately, it is the viewers who will judge whether this is a career-defining role, but I truly poured all my emotions into my performance. I think you should look forward to it."
