Additional hearings will continue regarding A, who has been identified as a perpetrator of workplace harassment against MBC weathercaster the late Oh Yoanna.
According to a media outlet on 27th, the Civil Division 48 of the Seoul Central District Court will resume the hearing date for the civil lawsuit filed by the late Oh Yoanna's family against A on July 22.
The trial was initially scheduled to proceed to a judgment without debate on March 27th. However, the hearing was resumed after A late submitted a power of attorney for legal representation.
Oh Yoanna was an MBC weathercaster who gained recognition by appearing on the tvN entertainment program "You Quiz on the Block" (abbreviated as You Quiz). However, she passed away in September last year, at the age of 28.
The news of her death became widely known in December of that year. Among this, a 17-page manuscript was revealed from the late woman's mobile phone, containing details about being subjected to workplace harassment by colleagues during her lifetime, shocking many.
In this regard, the Ministry of Employment and Labor determined that the actions of senior employees upon her entry in 2021 constituted harassment towards the deceased. However, it concluded that the provisions regarding "workplace harassment" could not be applied as it was deemed difficult to recognize her as a worker under the Labor Standards Act.
MBC established an investigative committee and conducted its own investigation, terminating its contract with A after the Ministry of Employment and Labor's findings. However, it renewed contracts with Kim Ga-young, Lee Hyun-seung, and Choi Ah-ri, stating, "We found no basis to regard the three as perpetrators based on the investigation results."
The family of the deceased has filed a civil lawsuit against A.
