Actor Byun Hong-jun has joined the Disney+ original series "Nine Puzzles," hinting at a compelling acting ability that defies his newcomer status, generating anticipation.
"Nine Puzzles" is a mystery thriller that delves into the secret of a series of murders that have resumed with an enigmatic puzzle piece, featuring 'Ina' (played by Kim Da-mi), the only witness to an unresolved case 10 years ago who is also a working profiler, and 'HANSSEM' (played by Son Suk-ku), a detective from the violent crimes unit who continues to suspect him as a suspect.
'Suriname,' directed by Yoon Jong-bin, known for films like 'The Drug King' and 'The Outlaws: The War on Crime,' is Byun Hong-jun's latest work, where he is expected to showcase a strong presence once again following "Veteran 2."
Byun Hong-jun, who plays Choi Dong-kyung in "Nine Puzzles," is expected to elevate the immersion of the drama with his delicate emotional performance and high level of engagement, breathing life into the character.
Now 20 years old, Byun Hong-jun is building a solid filmography with depth of performance beyond his years. In the recent film "Veteran 2," he played 'Seo Woo-jin,' the son of a couple portrayed by Hwang Jung-min and Jin Kyung, demonstrating a strong presence. Seo Woo-jin is a complex character who, while outwardly silent as a victim of school violence, possesses deep wounds within.
Byun Hong-jun delicately expressed this character's psychological turmoil and emotional conflict through restrained acting, eliciting empathy from viewers. Notably, in scenes of conflict with his police officer father, he built emotional depth meticulously, earning praise for realistically portraying the character's internal growth and transformation.
His performance also shone in the Coupang Play original drama "Family Plan." Byun Hong-jun appeared as the child actor for the protagonist Cheol-hee, played by Ryu Seung-bum, intricately depicting the inner world of a character living in a complex family situation and challenging environment while suppressing emotions. With his expressions, gestures, and every line infused with emotion, he completed the character's narrative, leaving a profound impression on the audience with a stable emotional line despite his young age.
Recognized as a next-generation acting star, he is a newcomer whose future steps are highly anticipated.
