(Following Interview ③) Comedian Lee Su-ji expressed her desire to move South Korea to tears with her heartfelt maternal love performance.
On the morning of the 26th, a round interview with comedian Lee Su-ji was held at a café in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul.
Lee has gained acting experience by making special appearances in various dramas, films, and more, in addition to her comedic activities as a comedian. Recently, she has drawn attention by playing the role of Sergeant Park Min-joo in the Genie TV series "New Recruit."
When asked if she has thoughts about challenging herself in serious acting, Lee stated, "The desire for acting continues. This is just a dream, but after about ten years, once I pass 50, I want to not only bring laughter to the public now but also play a mother role that brings emotions and tears later. Of course, comedy is part of acting, but I think studying is necessary to evoke emotions and tears. I want to accumulate that time and eventually move South Korea to tears with my mother role."
She expressed the specific reason for wanting to portray a 'mother,' saying, "I tend to cry easily. When it comes to stories about mothers, there's a lump in my throat. I think I might cry while doing it. If I can evoke tears from those who witness these emotions, I would be happy."
When asked if the maternal love she felt after childbirth has influenced her, she explained, "That seems to be a significant factor. After I got married and met my mother-in-law, I realized how well we got along and wondered how such a wonderful person could be my mother-in-law. It seems I still have feelings regarding her passing away. I regret not spending more meaningful time, which leads me to these thoughts."
She noted her role model mother character, saying, "Yes, I would say it's senior Yeom Hye-ran recently?" revealing her fandom for "When Life Gives You Tangerines." She added, "The first mother performance that made me think, 'How can someone cry so much?' was from actress Kim Hae-sook. I want to meet actress Kim Hae-sook in real life; don't I resemble her?"
In addition to acting, she shared her expansion plans in the entertainment field. Lee said, "I have content planned to do something like a talk show as the MC after SNL ends. If I get the chance, I want to try various entertainment formats. I also want to try variety shows," adding that "a talk show invitation came in from Coupang Play," sparking curiosity.
However, even while taking on the MC or serious acting roles, she emphasized, "I will continue with comedic acting." She stated, "I believe this is my essence. I think making various attempts while doing comedic acting is right," adding, "Due to my usual shyness, I think I'm channeling energy that I can't see in myself by embodying characters in comedic acting. I enjoy it, so I think I will keep doing it."
