In "The Dining Table of Chef Huh Young-man," Yook Sung-jae expressed his ambition to not miss out on being both a singer and an actor.
The episode of TV Chosun's "The Dining Table of Chef Huh Young-man" (hereafter referred to as "The Dining Table"), aired on the 25th, depicted Huh Young-man and Yook Sung-jae traveling to Chuncheon.
That day, Yook Sung-jae, who boasted about his interest in fishing, said, "I like freshwater fishing," and mentioned that there are "a few points" in Chuncheon Lake. However, he noted that he hasn't tried eating freshwater fish because they are too fishy.
Huh Young-man asked, "Doesn't group activities make it hard to travel often?" Yook Sung-jae replied, "But I have friends from the group I've been in since a long time with. I have friends from the group Boyfriend, and also from the group Teen Top, so we come out to places like this. There are great fishing spots too. Even if my friends don't really like fishing, they force themselves to come because I love it so much."
Above all, Yook Sung-jae attracted attention by mentioning that his interest in fishing was influenced by his grandfather. He explained, "My grandfather ran a fishing spot when he was alive. He was the first to import koi from Japan to raise them and donated the koi to the country. It started as a fish farm and grew into a fishing spot."
Meanwhile, Yook Sung-jae asked, "Has 'The Dining Table' ever gone abroad?" Upon hearing that they went abroad, he said, "I love Japanese food so much," dreaming of a trip to Japan. Huh Young-man asked, "Do you speak Japanese well?" and Yook Sung-jae replied, "I speak it quite well. I studied Japanese since I was a trainee targeting Japanese activities." Huh Young-man noted, "I will take a note of that," promising to plan for the future.
On the other hand, Huh Young-man asked, "Did you always think about singing from the beginning?" Yook Sung-jae reminisced, "I have loved going to karaoke since I was in elementary school. I would skip school to go to karaoke and said, 'Then I will become a singer.'"
He continued, "When the public audition call started, my father said, 'Try going to an audition, and if experts during the audition see you as someone who will be eliminated, then think about pursuing something else.' But luckily, I passed the audition on my first try," surprising everyone.
Regarding acting, he said, "Acting wasn't actually the direction I wanted to pursue. In fact, in idol entertainment, when an acting audition is held, everyone just goes. No one knows how someone will succeed," adding, "I got cast in a piece called 'Who Are You: School 2015,' and as people started to love my acting, it seems that's why I kept doing it."
Finally, Huh Young-man asked, "You're already in your thirties; how are you planning your future?" Yook Sung-jae replied, "As I mentioned earlier, I don't want to miss out on both rabbits. I want to pursue both singing and acting. Singing is something I do because it makes me happy, and I enjoy it."
In particular, Yook Sung-jae stated, "I think acting is still at a stage where my skills need to be evaluated. When looking at my skills, I'm not at a stage to enjoy it yet. I wonder if I can reach a level where I can genuinely feel interest and enjoyment in it, while continuing to challenge myself."
