Everyone was captivated by the 'Gurkha' experience on 'Born to Travel the World 4.'
In the episode aired on the 25th of MBC's entertainment program 'Born to Travel the World 4' (hereafter 'BTW4'), Kian84, Lee Si-eon, Pani Bottle, and Dex were shown trying to directly experience the 'Gurkha' training.
The Gurkhas, known as the world's strongest mercenary unit, belong to the British Army and offer significantly higher salaries than the average annual income in Nepal, resulting in a 100 to 1 application rate, and they are a special forces unit that undergoes systematic training through rigorous conditions, including physical training, academic study, and examinations to pass.
Dex said, "As someone with military experience, I thought about friends who want to apply for special forces, wondering if they have the same passion as I do, and if I have anything to share with them." Kian84 humorously remarked, "It felt like 30% of the training camp in Nonsan was added to the physical education academy."
Before even arriving, Dex noted, "I don't think the Gurkha experience will be easy." Having already enjoyed significant thrills at the amusement park, Dex was still very much into fitness, looking robust.
Dex said, "The difficulty level is different for each person. Some work hard, while others seem to take it easy," after subtly observing the trainees. However, this was during a break. As formal training began, the atmosphere changed dramatically. Dex remarked, "It's clear when someone is slacking off. There's only one such person in this group," but admitted he had misjudged as the first training commenced.
The first training involved high-intensity, heavy-weight training, where one had to carry a 20kg bag around a circle and return to complete one set, totaling four sets, before finishing the course by carrying the last bag around one more time, all within 1 minute and 40 seconds. Dex struggled right from the start and couldn't catch his breath easily before entering the second training.
Dex said, "As soon as I picked up the bag, I felt overwhelmed. It was so heavy, and the students next to me were really fast. I ended up hyperventilating, which was tough," adding, "What they were doing earlier was actually just a break."
He ultimately completed the training. Even as he prepared for the second training, Dex showed no signs of giving up. The second training was a battle loop. Dex explained the situation before entering the second training, saying, "The reason my fighting spirit faded was that my muscles were not recovering. My legs were shaking and I was breathing heavily."
However, there was a spark in Dex's eyes. He shared, "During the first training, all my muscles were exhausted. So I thought I could just quit. If I gave up here, it felt like I would ruin all my tattoos," expressing his mindset during the training. Dex remarked, "My stamina has changed so much. I feel like I've become a completely useless person, as I'm too far from being an active duty soldier now." However, since the record he set was suitable for passing the Gurkha standards, he still displayed the presence of an active duty soldier.
