Singer Gil (real name Gil Seong-jun), a former member of the hip hop duo Leessang, is launching a new YouTube channel.
Gil announced the news of his new YouTube channel through social media on the 24th.
He noted, "Hello, subscribers of 'Light Gilsungjun.' This is Gil Seong-jun and the production team. As you commented, the algorithm god has not taken care of us, and the prophecy of 'it's fun, but it doesn't go viral' has come true."
He then said, "Thus, I plan to start a new channel," adding, "I want to start this with all of you from the beginning, so we will hold a channel name contest!" This included the possibility of filming over a meal date, encouraging fan engagement.
Gil also stated, "I will announce the new channel immediately," adding the hashtags "#Algorithm #PleaseHelpEntertainmentGod."
Gil debuted in 2002 as a member of the hip hop duo Leessang alongside rapper Gary. Leessang received tremendous love with various hit songs, but as Gil was caught driving under the influence three times, they effectively began the process of disbandment due to difficulties in the entertainment industry. In 2022, on the 20th anniversary of Leessang, Gil posted, "I'm trying to start anything with a good feeling," leading to rumors of a reunion. However, Gary officially announced their disbandment, stating, "That's not true, we have disbanded." Nonetheless, Gil drew the line on rumors of discord, stating, "There's nothing like that."
In the meantime, Gil married his 10-year younger wife, Choi Bo-reum, in 2016. The ceremony was reportedly a family meal and only a marriage registration. They have created a family with their son, Ha-eum.
Gil has attempted to transform into a YouTuber by opening a personal YouTube channel called 'Light Gilsungjun' on Nov. 29 of last year. The channel currently has about 13,000 subscribers.
