On the E Channel program 'Student Abroad, The Unexpected,' Ryu Soo-young, invited to the kitchen of a Michelin 2-star chef in Portugal, becomes enamored with the local 'kimchi-jeon taco.'
On the broadcast of the E Channel program 'Student Abroad, The Unexpected' airing on the 24th, Ryu Soo-young will meet with star chef Hui Paola, who has maintained his Michelin 2-star status for an impressive seven consecutive years. Hui Paola has previously presented fusion Korean dishes combined with Portuguese cuisine, such as lobster soup flavored with dongchimi, kimchi cauliflower, and dongchimi ice cream. In order to taste more recipes, Ryu Soo-young, who is separated from Yoon Kyung-ho and Ki-hyun, was invited to his kitchen. After welcoming Ryu Soo-young, Hui Paola noted, "I tried to make it in our way using Portuguese ingredients without ignoring the original kimchi recipe," and unveiled his homemade baek-kimchi. After tasting his kimchi, Ryu Soo-young praised, "With this level, you could be an honorary Korean."
Meanwhile, chef Hui Paola recreated the kimchi-jeon taco he specially developed for 'Student Abroad' in front of Ryu Soo-young. He used a waffle machine to make the kimchi-jeon batter crispy and formed it into taco shell shapes, filling it with fresh seafood such as scallops, lobster, and shrimp, artfully presented in cube shapes. He even made a unique sauce by mixing shrimp heads, lemon juice, and mustard, which cannot be tasted anywhere else. Ryu Soo-young commented, "The taste is an upgraded version of yangjangpi sauce, smooth and sophisticated," adding, "I feel the wall (of skill) confronting the chef."
He then added lemon salt and other spices, giving a kick to the flavor of the 'kimchi-jeon taco.' He exclaimed, "It's Korea enveloping Portugal. The taste is not clichéd. It was the best I've ever had," raising his thumb in approval. Later, when it was Ryu Soo-young's turn to serve Korean food, he attempted to run away, saying, "After eating, I feel like I can't cook," which drew laughter. It raises curiosity about what Korean dish Ryu Soo-young, who confessed to 'losing courage,' will present to the Michelin 2-star chef.
