Actress Sung Yu-ri, a former member of the group Fin.K.L, is facing backlash as she returns to home shopping following the arrest of her husband Ahn Seong-hyun and resumes her social media activities.
Sung uploaded a video with a heart-shaped emoji on her account on the 21st. This is a teaser video for the home shopping broadcast 'Sung Yu-ri Edition,' indicating that Sung appears to have posted the video on her account to promote the program.
However, the reactions from netizens have been cold. Ahn Seong-hyun, Sung's husband and a professional golfer, was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison last December for charges related to bribery.
Ahn has been embroiled in controversy for receiving cash of 3 billion won, luxury watches worth a total of 400 million won, and high-end restaurant membership cards from Kang Jong-hyun, known as the real owner of Bithumb, from September to November 2021 under the pretext of soliciting coin listings.
Sung has remained silent without disclosing a significant position regarding her husband's controversy, but in January last year, welcoming the New Year, she conveyed her feelings through her social account, saying, "I sincerely pray that the truth about the unjust and difficult situation our family is experiencing is revealed," showing support for her husband.
As a result of the controversy, Sung suspended her broadcasting activities after the KBS2 entertainment program 'Is Breakup Recalling?' ended in April 2023. However, she occasionally updated her current status through social media, which led to a flood of negative opinions.
Amid this, in December last year, the 11th Criminal Division of the Seoul Southern District Court (Director General Jeong Do-seong) sentenced professional golfer Ahn Seong-hyun to 4 years and 6 months in prison for charges related to violations of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Economic Crimes (Fraud). The court stated, "The acts of soliciting and receiving money at virtual asset exchanges undermine the fairness and transparency of the capital market," and ordered the imprisonment of the defendants, noting that the offenses were premeditated and that there was no recovery of damages.
Despite Ahn Seong-hyun's prison sentence and arrest, Sung sought to resume her activities through home shopping. Last month on the 25th, GS Home Shopping uploaded a video featuring Sung's back, hinting at her return, but deleted the post amidst a barrage of criticisms from netizens.
Despite such criticisms, Sung has resumed participating in 'Sung Yu-ri Edition' since the 30th of last month and has continued to promote home shopping, marking her return after six months.
Fans who saw this commented, "I missed you so much," and "You look beautiful," showing their support. However, public opinion remains cold, indicating that there is no consideration for the victims harmed by the coin scam. Furthermore, it has been pointed out that resuming activities less than six months after Ahn was sentenced and imprisoned is premature. With the public's critical gaze directed at her, attention is focused on whether Sung, who previously expressed feelings of being "unjustly treated" regarding Ahn's charges, will make further statements to resolve the controversy.
