In 'The Return of Superman', Park In-bee reminisced about the time she experienced a slump and shared a story about almost becoming a video store owner.
On the broadcast aired on 21st on KBS 2TV's entertainment show 'The Return of Superman' (hereafter 'Superman Is Back'), Park In-bee recalled the period when she experienced a slump, along with her parents' appearance.
On that day, Park In-bee's father expressed regret about his daughter, who hasn't played golf since 2022. He said, "It's empty to watch golf without Park In-bee now. While watching golf today, I remembered In-bee a lot." In the studio, Park In-bee revealed, "My father originally loved golf a lot. He loved it so much that it made me start playing golf."
Park In-bee's father also mentioned the barefoot passion shown by player Park Se-ri, recalling, "I realized how great golf players truly are. So, I wondered if our In-bee could do the same, and that's when I took her to the golf course. I think that was the turning point."
Starting golf at the age of 11, Park In-bee showed exceptional talent by achieving a hole-in-one just six months later. Her mother revealed that Park In-bee moved to the United States without her husband, taking her two daughters with her when Park In-bee was in middle school.
Her mother said, "We lived a combatant lifestyle for eight years. There's this sense that we absolutely must succeed. I lived fiercely in a place where I couldn't even communicate, not knowing if it was tough." Hearing this, Park In-bee expressed her admiration, saying, "I couldn't speak a word of English. From the perspective of now being a mother, I don't think I could do it."
In particular, her mother recalled the time during Park In-bee's slump, saying, "Even when she won during matches, she didn't shed a single tear, but when she said she really couldn't do it, she cried so much that it hurt my heart, and I cried a lot too." At that time, Park In-bee was going through her first slump since her professional debut and endured a tough time for as long as four years.
Her mother also said that Park In-bee had a really tough year in 2009, stating, "When she said she really couldn't do it, I told her, 'One day, you will overcome this, and as time passes, there will be a day when you'll be grateful to your mom and dad.'"
Later, Park In-bee finally overcame her slump in 2012, and her parents, who had consistently supported her, also cheered. Regarding this, Park In-bee confessed, "I was very immature. It was really difficult, and because it was tough at that moment, I often resented my parents and thought about quitting every day. Looking back now, I feel so sorry. They struggled so much for me."
Meanwhile, her mother revealed, "Didn't you say you'd quit golf and open a video store?" As the studio buzzed, Park In-bee responded, "That was my solace in America. The only fun thing was watching 'Winter Sonata' during that time, that was my only solace. I wanted to quit golf back then. I kept saying I wanted to work in a video store while watching 'Winter Sonata.' I wondered why I had to live like this."
He continued, "If I had quit and leaned toward opening a video store back then, I might have invented something like Netflix." Park Soo-hong remarked, "That's a big ambition." Her mother also laughed and said, "In what era?" Meanwhile, her father affectionately expressed, "In-bee would have succeeded even if she ran a video store."
