Actress Moon Geun-young has won the glory of the new actress award at the 23rd Directors' Cut Awards.
Moon Geun-young received the new actress award in the institutional sector for her role in the Netflix series "Hell Season 2" (hereinafter "Hell 2") at the 23rd Directors' Cut Awards held on the 20th.
Now in its 23rd year, the Directors' Cut Awards, hosted by the Directors Guild of Korea (DGK), is an awards ceremony that is particularly meaningful as Korean film directors select and present the awards themselves, differing from previous film awards.
The new actor award that Moon Geun-young received honors an actor who has shown a face never seen before. Moon Geun-young played the role of Teacher Haet-sal-ban (Oh Ji-won), a key figure in the fanatical group Arrowhead, in "Hell 2" last year, and succeeded in a perfect acting transformation by delicately portraying the transformation of a character becoming fanatical with a striking visual.
Through her agency, Moon Geun-young expressed gratitude, saying, "Thank you for giving me this meaningful award," and stated, "I would like to thank all the actors and staff who worked on 'Hell 2,' including Director Yeon Sang-ho. I have always wanted to play new characters, and I was excited about the new role of Teacher Haet-sal-ban, and acting was enjoyable. I will continue to strive to be an actor who shows new faces in the future."
She further expressed her ambitious aspirations, saying, "I will wait with an open mind for the bold choices of the directors," adding, "I will work harder to become an actor who does not betray those choices."
As such, with a different face showcased in "Hell 2," proudly boasting a broader acting spectrum, expectations are high for what steps Moon Geun-young will take next.
