Actress Hwang Jung-eum is facing allegations of embezzling approximately 4.3 billion won from a family corporation, while her current agency emphasized its commitment to repayment.
On the 20th, a representative from Hwang Jung-eum's current agency, Y1 Entertainment, stated to OSEN, "While we cannot disclose the specific amount, Hwang Jung-eum has repaid a significant portion of the funds she withdrew in the form of advances from her former company by liquidating personal assets. Procedures are also underway to settle some outstanding amounts, and we plan to complete the process with our best efforts."
That day, a media outlet reported, citing Hwang Jung-eum's legal representative, that she had repaid about two-thirds of the embezzled amount to date and plans to quickly repay the remaining amount of over 1 billion won.
It is known that Hwang Jung-eum possesses considerable assets from her second marriage breakdown with Lee Young-don. She owns a detached house in Itaewon-dong, Yongsan District, Seoul, with a land area of 347 square meters, spanning from basement level 1 to 2 floors above ground, which was reportedly purchased for 4.65 billion won in 2020. Additionally, the corporation of which Hwang Jung-eum is the representative also owns a building in Sinsadong, Gangnam District, Seoul, with a purchase price of 6.2 billion won.
Recently, it was revealed that Hwang Jung-eum is under trial for allegedly embezzling around 4.34 billion won from a one-person planning agency established as a family corporation. This corporation is 100% owned by Hwang Jung-eum, who is reported to have invested approximately 4.2 billion won of the embezzled funds in cryptocurrency but suffered losses.
In relation to this, Hwang Jung-eum apologized through her current agency, Y1 Entertainment, saying, "I am sorry for causing concern due to a shameful matter. The company relied on the revenue I earned from my entertainment activities, so it was an immature judgment. Fortunately, there are no victims, and I have repaid a significant portion by liquidating my personal assets."
As a result, SBS Plus and T-Cast E Channel's entertainment program "Because I'm Single," where Hwang Jung-eum is active as an MC and cast member, plans to minimize Hwang Jung-eum's segments in the 12th episode (final episode) of season 2 airing today (20th).
