Shin Sung-woo shared a story about his mother.
On the 19th, during the broadcast of Channel A's "Close Friends Documentary - Four-Person Table," singer Shin Sung-woo revealed a heartbreaking family history.
Shin Sung-woo drew attention by stating that he had lived alone since the age of 13. He said, "My mother raised my siblings and me alone in the countryside. Someone who was boarding in the lower room got a job transfer to Seoul. That person owed my mother some money. Feeling sorry, they decided to take their son to Seoul."
Shin Sung-woo's mother, a former soldier, raised him strongly while sending him to study in Seoul. Shin Sung-woo remarked, "Back then, boys were told not to enter the kitchen. But my mother said to come. I learned to cook through observation," noting that he had built his culinary skills from a young age.
Shin Sung-woo said, "Having to fend for myself at a young age made me grow up quickly. My mother visited every two weeks, but there was a time when she couldn't come for two months due to an injury. When she didn't come, the 500 briquettes gradually disappeared. I think I paid almost all the electricity bill." He mentioned encountering some bad adults.
Shin Sung-woo remarked, "Two years later, my younger sister also came up. She kept whining about being hungry, so there were pumpkins in the park in front of our house. We once ate a soup made only with pumpkins for a week after picking some at night."
Shin Sung-woo noted, "If I had someone to talk to, it might have been easier, but as things piled up, I ended up writing music."
Shin Sung-woo mentioned, "My mother wanted me to attend the Army Academy. Our cousins went to the military academy too." He added, "I was secretly active in a band because my mother had broken 16 guitars before."
Shin Sung-woo said, "My mother didn't know, but an album came out. I mustered the courage to show her the album. When I told her I became a singer, she stepped back and asked me not to do it for too long. After the broadcast, when people around her talked about me, she was happy."
Recently, Shin Sung-woo stated that his mother's health has deteriorated. He said, "She fell while playing with my son. Since she's older, she suffered a femoral fracture. Last year, she also had a brain hemorrhage and underwent surgery," adding that she was subsequently diagnosed with colon cancer and had to undergo chemotherapy.
Shin Sung-woo said, "My younger sister got a house in front of the hospital, and she is staying there. We go back and forth."
