Cha Hak-yeon revealed his passionate preparation process for character immersion in "Oh My Ghost Clients."
The new Friday-Saturday drama airing on MBC on the 30th, "Oh My Ghost Clients" (planned by Kwon Sung-chang, directed by Im Soon-rye, Lee Han-jun, written by Kim Bo-tong, Yoo Seung-hee) is a comic fantasy action drama about a labor lawyer who sees ghosts and his tumultuous journey to solve labor issues. It is the first television directing work of director Im Soon-rye, who directed the films "The Best Moment in Our Lives" and "Negotiation," and the script is co-written by Kim Bo-tong of the OTT drama "D.P." and Yoo Seung-hee of the film "I Can Speak," generating anticipation.
Cha Hak-yeon plays the role of the quirky and attention-seeking video creator Gyo-keun, helping the labor lawyer No Mu-jin (played by Jung Kyung-ho) to bring various labor issues to light. Recently, Jung Kyung-ho praised Cha Hak-yeon's acting, stating, "He was so funny and did so well," hinting at the new charm Cha Hak-yeon will unveil in "Oh My Ghost Clients." Cha Hak-yeon has focused attention on his character and the work.
◆ To transform into an attention-seeking video creator, "I practiced live broadcasting alone at home"
Cha Hak-yeon shared insights on the charm of Gyo-keun's character: "Sometimes he seems like a light-hearted person with loose screws, but he can make quick judgments and play a crucial role in identifying solutions during crises. Gyo-keun's unique charm feels like refreshing 'sparkling water' that breaks through blockages, which drew me in. While the drama deals with heavy events, I liked how Gyo-keun manages to make people smile amidst serious moments."
In particular, Cha Hak-yeon made special preparations to enhance Gyo-keun's attention-seeking qualities. He stated, "I sat alone in front of a computer at home and envisioned that many viewers were waiting, then I conducted live broadcasts. By setting up a tripod, smartphone, and lighting, and practicing recording, I was able to get closer to the Gyo-keun character little by little. Initially, I found starting the introductions difficult and frequently failed, but fortunately, as the actual filming approached, I became proficient without awkwardness. I hope everyone looks forward to what Gyo-keun will bring as 'Gyeon-jjang TV' in the drama. Also, Gyo-keun will wear vivid colors and flashy patterns as casual wear, so I hope you enjoy the fashion style as well," revealing his character preparation process.
◆ "Comic acting is challenging... It was possible with 'Mu-jins' Jung Kyung-ho + Seol In-ah"
Cha Hak-yeon expressed, "I think the character Gyo-keun itself has been a 'challenge' for me." He added, "While acting as Gyo-keun in this work, I pondered how to portray him as a comic yet not lightweight character. Through this thought process, I began to understand just a bit about my seniors' comments on how difficult comic acting can be."
For Cha Hak-yeon, the 'Mu-jins' team became a great source of strength. In the drama, No Mu-jin, Na Hee-joo (played by Seol In-ah), and Gyo-keun form the 'Mu-jins' team to tackle labor issues collaboratively. Cha Hak-yeon noted, "When choosing a project, the script was not only very entertaining but I also had high expectations regarding creating something fun together with the 'Mu-jins' members. Jung Kyung-ho, the actor on set, led us well, and I am grateful for continuously having fun creating scenes with actor Jung Kyung-ho and Seol In-ah." Cha Hak-yeon heightened anticipation for how the 'Mu-jins' chemistry would unfold on-air.
