SM Classics, a classic & jazz label under SM Entertainment, announced on the 16th that it will hold the K-POP orchestra concert 'WIENER SYMPHONIKER X K-POP (subtitle: SM CLASSICS LIVE 2026 with WIENER SYMPHONIKER)' in collaboration with the world-renowned symphony orchestra representing Vienna, the 'Wiener Symphoniker.'
The performance is a special project included in the regular concert lineup of the Wiener Symphoniker for the 2025/26 season and is set to take place on Feb. 16 (Mon.) at the 'Konzerthaus Wien,' a representative concert hall in Vienna, the center of classical music in Austria.
This collaboration is significant as it combines the unique music intellectual property (IP) of SM Classics, which captures the essence of K-POP through classical reinterpretation, with the world-class performance of the Wiener Symphoniker, providing a highly immersive experience. Additionally, it is an unprecedented attempt to bring K-POP to the European classical stage in a standalone concert format, expanding the emotional experience to a global audience.
Since its launch in 2020, SM Classics has reinterpreted representative K-POP songs from SM through orchestral and jazz arrangements, expanding the musical boundaries of K-POP. In February, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of SM's founding, it successfully held the world's first K-POP orchestra concert 'SM CLASSICS LIVE 2025' in collaboration with the Seoul Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, providing an unforgettable special experience to classical music fans as well as K-POP fans both domestically and internationally.
Founded in 1900, the Wiener Symphoniker is a historic concert orchestra that serves as Vienna's cultural ambassador and represents the city. It conducts over 150 concerts and opera performances each season, leading the European classical scene. With a broad repertoire that spans from traditional classics to contemporary music and innovative programming, the collaboration with the unique K-POP-based classical label SM Classics garners even greater anticipation.
Meanwhile, SM Classics plans to actively pursue the performance and sheet music IP licensing business, aiming to spread its original IP worldwide, with a concert in Seoul at the Lotte Concert Hall scheduled for August.
