"It took a long time, but I am starting again." Singer Samuel has returned to the domestic stage after six years, marking his 10th anniversary debut and opening a new chapter. The new song "ROCKSTAR" encapsulates the time he has gone through and the support he has for himself.
Recently, Samuel held an interview to commemorate the release of his new song "ROCKSTAR" at the OSEN building and shared stories about his new album.
On the 9th, Samuel announced the release of his new single "ROCKSTAR" to celebrate his 10th anniversary debut and signaled the resumption of his domestic activities. Although it has been a year since the release of his single "NOW" last year, it has been six years since Samuel has fully engaged in music broadcasts and other activities in Korea.
Samuel shared his thoughts on his comeback, saying, "It's almost been six years since I started domestic activities again. I have many curiosities about how it will feel to stand on stage again through Mnet's 'M Countdown' and what kind of performance I will give."
Having overcome difficult times, from a contract dispute with his former agency in 2019 to his father's death, Samuel returns more mature with his new song "ROCKSTAR," conveying messages like 'Let's live each day meaningfully and enjoyably' and 'Overcome challenging moments while enjoying everything I do, and don't give up but strive to the end.'
Samuel, who participated in writing and composing the new song, explained, "I started working on it in early December last year and had many concerns during the process. I was wondering if it was my song when nothing came out, but suddenly a good idea popped up, and after recording it, it turned out well. I received inspiration from there and continued recording. The choreography was done by the Wavy Boys, and the process of preparing the music video was actually shot in a very short time. It was a crazy timeline, but there was a lot of help, and I got lucky. We accomplished that process, and a satisfactory result came out."
Regarding the new song, he said, "Before deciding on 'ROCKSTAR,' there were about 6 to 7 songs I had written. There were six songs that had only beats, and at that time, I watched 'The Karate Kid,' which starred Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith. I played all six songs at that time, and that song suited the best. I thought I should try it with this one," adding, "I wanted to write a song that was full of spirit, intense, and overflowing with confidence. I included many fun elements and stories I wanted to tell. It's a song that truly represents me."
Today (15th), Samuel will have his comeback stage through 'M Countdown' and remarked, "Since it's been a while since I stood on stage, I'm focusing more on the performance, and because my stage is going to be exposed to the public after a long time, I am immersing myself in it. Naturally, I feel nervous and pressured, but I want to show my best as beautifully as possible in this short time."
He added, "It feels very different from when I was active before, and I watched some fan cam and stage videos, and I felt a big difference. The video quality is so good, and I worry about how well it will turn out when I appear on screen."
Wanting to engage in active activities after coming back, Samuel noted, "I definitely want to think about another album by the end of this year. However, my wish is to release one by autumn at the latest." He revealed that the next album is being planned to feature songs with a fresh and cool vibe reminiscent of Justin Bieber's earlier works, saying, "I wanted to give that reversal charm, so I structured the previous album to have a strong and hip-hop element."
When asked what he hopes the public and fans will take away from his new song, he expressed, "I hope people enjoy this song feeling energized, excited, and having fun. Honestly, this song sounds good, but I think it's even more captivating when performed on stage. Any response would be good. I want to hear comments like 'Samuel has grown up beautifully' and 'It's been a while since I last saw him, and he looks so great now.' Right now, I want to hear everything, and I'm curious about the feedback." He continued, "Seeing that feedback, I think I will learn more. The public and fans might gradually form this image of me. I have high expectations for this activity."
