Jeong Eun-ji and Lee Joon-young have taken a further step toward growth in their respective positions.
In the 5th episode of the KBS 2TV drama '24 Hour Health Club' (directed by Park Joon-soo and Choi Yeon-su, written by Kim Ji-soo), which aired on the 14th, a cheerful yet realistic episode unfolded featuring the fitness enthusiast director Doh Hyun-joong (played by Lee Joon-young) and beginner gym member Lee Mi-ran (played by Jeong Eun-ji), who are liberated from childcare and carbohydrates.
In yesterday's broadcast, the members of the 24 Hour Health Club were bewildered by the appearance of a child calling Hyun-joong 'Daddy,' but soon faced the exhausted child's mother, Hye-bin (played by Han So-hyun). The child had accidentally entered the gym while their mother was distracted, and Hyun-joong volunteered to look after the child while Hye-bin, unable to exercise due to the child, managed both parenting and personal training.
Meanwhile, Mi-ran received an offer to appear on a live market for a Hawaii travel package, and was filled with fear at the words of her friend Kim Ye-jin (played by Nam Kyu-hee), who said, 'If I go on TV, I will look twice as big as in real life.' As a result, Mi-ran resolved to give up flour and embarked on a weight loss battle, but flour, akin to devil's powder, constantly tempted her and shook her mental state.
Mi-ran seriously conveyed the news of her intention to give up flour to Hyun-joong, but he mentioned side effects by saying, 'To the Mi-ran member I know, flour was the joy of life and the very source of motivation, the best friend itself. If you restrict your diet excessively, it could become impossible to carry out daily life.' Mi-ran, feeling that he saw her as dependent, got offended and suggested a wager, saying, 'If I can't give up flour, I will dance on the live market. If I succeed, please eat Tteokbokki with me.'
However, Mi-ran became increasingly sensitive as the days went by and suffered from withdrawal symptoms. Hyun-joong also grew weary from the harsh realities of parenting. The heightened sensitivity of the two eventually led to a conflict, and their childish(?) confrontation, which was a peak of witty banter between Hyun-joong and Mi-ran, brought laughter and left audiences smiling.
Meanwhile, the reality of parenting was much tougher than expected. Hyun-joong felt the first impulse to escape from being a gym member due to the overwhelming parenting. Ultimately, he pretended to be ill and canceled Hye-bin's personal training session, taking time for his own physical training, and the moment he painfully realized the truth that 'parenting is harder than fitness' brought laughter.
Then, Hyun-joong realized that the direction of his personal training was incorrect, and instead of blaming the physically weak mother, he pointed out Ji-ho's unflagging stamina. Therefore, a children's fitness training area was created in the gym to provide a space for children to exercise. As a result, Hye-bin was able to briefly enjoy a cup of coffee, liberated from parenting. Mi-ran also reached her limit with withdrawal symptoms from flour, acknowledged her status as a flour slave, and burst into tears of happiness when she ate the bagel that Hyun-joong offered. Although Mi-ran could not part with flour, she provided viewers with a profound resonance as she reflected on the meaning of 'true liberation' in taking care of herself.
At the end of the broadcast, Mi-ran was delighted to have successfully completed the live market. However, her joy was short-lived when she froze at the unexpected contact from her ex-boyfriend Yeom Jun-seok (played by Jung Wook-jin). Whether she has completely overcome the pain of the breakup through exercise remains to be seen, and the meaningful ending that reflects Mi-ran's complex inner feelings heightened anticipation for the next episode.
