True Story examines the truth of the Hwacheon River death case.
On the night of Dec. 26 last year, around 10 p.m., a traffic accident occurred at an underpass next to the Hwacheon River, which runs through the city of Hwaseong in Jeollanam-do. A turning vehicle struck Mr. Jeong Hae-min (pseudonym, 58 years old at the time), who was taking a walk. It was thought to be a minor collision, but Mr. Jeong (pseudonym) died three days after being hospitalized. However, the bereaved family is said to have difficulty accepting this death easily. What could be the reason?
▶ The bizarre behavior of the perpetrator immediately after the accident
After the funeral, the bereaved family heard a shocking story from the police. The perpetrator's actions after the accident were reportedly insufficient. The bereaved family, who checked the CCTV with the police, could not contain their anger.
Immediately after the accident, the perpetrator made a phone call somewhere. They also went back and forth next to the scene, where the Hwacheon River flows, drinking from the river nearly 30 times. The production team of True Story, which tracked the whereabouts of the perpetrator on the day of the accident, visited the billiard hall where he was said to have stopped just before the accident. The habitual perpetrator, who visited there once a week, reportedly had a drinking party with his companions before going to the billiard hall. Thus, there are circumstances raising suspicion of drunk driving by the perpetrator. However, the response from the police was unexpected...
