Singer Kim Heung-kook declared his public support for Kim Moon-soo, the People Power Party presidential candidate, despite his colleague Hyun-young's advice to "not get involved in politics."
On the 13th, Kim Heung-kook attended a press conference at the People Power Party's central office in Yeouido, Seoul, and stated, "To win the 6.3 presidential election, I will work hard alongside candidate Kim Moon-soo at nationwide campaign sites." He continued, "More right-wing celebrities need to step up. Right-wing celebrities can quickly connect with the public and I believe they are helpful in elections," explaining the background of his support.
Around ten entertainers, including actors Choi Jun-yong, Noh Hyun-hee, comedian Shin Dong-su, and Lee Hyuk-jae, also showed their support at the press conference. Candidate Kim Moon-soo responded, "I appreciate the support of celebrities. We will definitely win alongside the public."
For his junior Hyun-young, who had been cheering for Kim Heung-kook, this is a disappointing moment. In April, at the premiere of the movie "Day By Day," Hyun-young pointedly told Kim Heung-kook, "Are you getting involved in politics, oppa? Don't do that. Just do 'Tiger Butterfly.'"
Kim Heung-kook is well-known as a public supporter of former President Yoon Seok-youl. He has consistently participated in various gatherings and statements supporting former President Yoon since the end of 2023. In January, at a rally in front of the official residence, he stated, "The terms 'Martial Butterfly' and 'Insurrection Butterfly' worry my family. However, I will not back down," and he also sang "Tiger Butterfly" at the scene, receiving cheers from conservative supporters.
Kim Heung-kook previously revealed, "I started engaging in right-wing celebrity activities on the recommendation of Chairman Chung Mong-joon," and added, "I didn't know much about politics, but after being appointed as a special advisor, I had no choice but to be careful. If you make a mistake once, you have to take a break for five years." Since then, he has not hidden his political statements as a representative of right-wing celebrities and has once again stood on the side of the People Power Party, following former President Yoon Seok-youl.
Kim Heung-kook, who is set to grab the microphone at the presidential campaign site, merely brushed off Hyun-young's message to "not get involved in politics."
