Movie 'Holy Night: Demon Hunters' (provided/distributed by Lotte Entertainment | produced by Big Punch Pictures, Nova Film) director Lim Dae-hee revealed the history of his efforts to create unique characters and a world view.
The world view of the occult action 'Holy Night: Demon Hunters,' in which the dark fixers with special abilities, 'Holy Night' team Bau (Ma Dong-seok), Sharon (Seo-hyun), and Kim-goon (Lee Da-wit) eliminate the forces of evil, began with the question, "Why?" Director Lim Dae-hee started expanding the world view based on questions like, "Why can a devil only enter one human?" and "Why do these strong and supernatural beings only use their power to frighten humans?" He referenced numerous existing occult works and literature to lay the groundwork for creating the uniqueness of 'Holy Night: Demon Hunters.'
Questioning the conventional approach of existing occult works that progress the story through one character and one devil, he added a force called 'followers' and established a cartel system made up of multiple forces instead of a single devil. Accordingly, he divided the hierarchy and classes between followers and devils, expanding the world view unique to 'Holy Night: Demon Hunters' with a larger group.
In particular, he sought to emphasize uniqueness by properly merging Eastern exorcism and Western exorcism, expanding the superstition that major diseases such as 'compatibility' and 'murderer' are attributed to 'evil spirits,' asking the interesting question, "If current crime-related incidents occur as a result of collusion with evil forces?"
Based on this world view, director Lim Dae-hee built strong narratives for the characters. In particular, he added depth to the characters' backstories, increasing the drama's interest. 'Bau,' who fights against the evil followers with his fists, was born with extraordinary strength and was abandoned at the banks of a river during a harsh winter, yet survived miraculously. He possesses absolute power from devil's blood and uses that power to suppress evil forces.
The exorcist 'Sharon,' endowed with a miraculous ability that demons covet, can sense, find, and exorcise demons, and is also one of the 72 great vessels that can contain a great demon. Because of her unique mystical energy, she becomes a target of demons and followers. Once a worshiper of demons, 'Kim-goon' escapes from the forces of evil with 'Bau's help in the past. Using the latest technology, he tracks the followers and uncovers their traits. Director Lim Dae-hee assembled the 'Holy Night' team as a powerful combination to confront evil - physical strength, spiritual ability, and a brain skilled in handling various equipment. The three characters, 'Bau,' 'Sharon,' and 'Kim-goon,' exhibit their individuality and skills while achieving perfect teamwork, capturing the audience's support and enthusiasm and dominating the box office.
