Choi Soo-young started off strongly as a 'master of sweet and salty' in 'Second Shot at Love,' capturing laughter, tears, and romance.
In the first episode of 'Second Shot at Love' (written by Myung Soo-hyun, Jeon Ji-hyun / directed by Jang Yu-jeong / planned by Studio Dragon / produced by How Pictures), which aired on the 12th, Choi Soo-young led the series as Han Geum-joo, a character molded by a family known for enjoying alcohol. The first episode recorded a nationwide rating of 3.4% and 4.3% in the metropolitan area, achieving the top spot across all cable and general programming channels during the same time slot, according to Nielsen Korea, based on paid households.
The Geum-joo family, known for their fondness for alcohol, trained Geum-joo in drinking as soon as she graduated from high school and introduced lessons in binge drinking tailored for a college life where staying up all night is the norm. They emphasized that mastering the social aspect of life revolves around alcohol, effectively turning Geum-joo into a heavy drinker. When Geum-joo's excessive drinking led her to break off her engagement with her boyfriend, Ju-yeob (played by Yoo Ui-tae), her mother, Gwang-ok (played by Kim Sung-ryung), could not bear it and brought her back to their hometown in Bocheon, imposing a drinking ban in their heavy-drinking household.
Ultimately, Geum-joo, who returned to Bocheon, unexpectedly reunited with her former best friend, Ui-jun (Gong Myoung). After their first meeting, Geum-joo overheard Ui-jun expressing that he expected to meet someone much better than her at a gathering with friends, reminding her of the moment when she witnessed her boyfriend's unfaithfulness, leaving her feeling miserable. In her upset state, she drank heavily and exclaimed, "I can't be abandoned by that jerk. I have to dump him first. That way, I won't end up with the short end of the stick," breaking down in tears and provoking sympathy from onlookers. Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, a drunken Geum-joo, who had ruined her grandfather's memorial, woke up in Ui-jun's house, sparking curiosity about what transpired between the two overnight and how their relationship might change.
Choi Soo-young seamlessly embodied Han Geum-joo, who describes herself as a heavy drinker, receiving praise from viewers for her performance. From her lively yet realistic portrayal of a drunk to her emotionally charged tearful scenes, she compellingly depicted the romance with her former best friend Ui-jun, demonstrating her outstanding ability to portray characters. Her unmatchable performance has continued to receive a positive response, captivating both fans of drinking culture and her character alike.
Meanwhile, the second episode of tvN's 'Second Shot at Love,' featuring actress Choi Soo-young, will air today (the 13th) at 8:50 p.m.
