Disney+ original series 'Nine Puzzles' has released production stills that heighten expectations with its unique mise-en-scène.
Ten years ago, 'Ina' (Kim Da-mi), the only witness to an unsolved case and a current profiler, and 'Hansem' (Son Suk-ku), a detective from the violent crimes team who continues to suspect him as a suspect, uncovered the secrets of the recently resumed serial murder case intertwined with mysterious puzzle pieces in the thriller 'Nine Puzzles' that heightens expectations with its unique mise-en-scène that transcends reality and the surreal.
The released production stills captured various spaces that showcase the unique world of 'Nine Puzzles,' which seems to exist somewhere between reality and animation. In particular, in the room of profiler 'Ina,' who is a suspect in the murder case from ten years ago, one can find a variety of puzzle boxes and traces of research, suggesting his efforts to find clues hidden in the only evidence left behind by the past perpetrator.
Additionally, the bouncy red headphones, scented candles, and hand cream go beyond mere props, encapsulating 'Ina's distinctive charm. Meanwhile, the grotesque and mysterious artistic style of the puzzle, which hides secrets driving the entire story, adds a chilling tension, enhancing the genre's thrilling appeal.
As director Yoon Jong-bin noted, "What was newly challenging was the set and art. It was a new task to select and design because the art went beyond the perspective of realism," the eye-catching production design features unique visuals of the detective 'Hansem' tracking down the perpetrator from his house to the police station, blending elements rarely seen in our everyday lives.
Kim Byung-han, the art director who previously collaborated with director Yoon Jong-bin on the series 'Suriname,' said, "Since the work features many familiar spaces, I contemplated how to differentiate it. Starting from the characters' looks, I elevated the overall tone to bring the characters to life, and I worked on the space and lighting accordingly," sharing the process of constructing the unique world of 'Nine Puzzles,' distinct from a reality-based crime investigation.
The fresh mise-en-scène of 'Nine Puzzles,' which transcends reality and the surreal with unique and dramatic characters, enhances the viewing experience and is expected to draw audiences even deeper into the narrative.
The stylish and sensuous direction of director Yoon Jong-bin and the unique and charming chemistry of Kim Da-mi and Son Suk-ku, combined with thrilling suspense that delivers maximum immersion, generate excitement for the Disney+ original series 'Nine Puzzles,' which will exclusively premiere six episodes on May 21 (Wed), three episodes on May 28 (Wed), and two episodes on June 4 (Wed), totaling eleven episodes.
