A peculiar nervous tension began between Kang Ha-neul and Go Min-si from their first meeting.
In the first episode of the Genie TV original 'Tastefully Yours' that aired on the 12th (planned by KT Studio Genie, produced by Shortcake, created by Han Jun-hee, written by Jeong Soo-yoon, directed by Park Dan-hee), an unusual first meeting between Han Bum-woo (played by Kang Ha-neul) and Mo Yeon-joo (played by Go Min-si) unfolded, showcasing their fierce battle of pride. As a result, 'Tastefully Yours' recorded a viewership rating of 1.6% in the Seoul metropolitan area and 1.6% nationwide (according to Nielsen Korea).
'Tastefully Yours' opened with the daily life of Han Bum-woo, the second son of the Hansang Food Field Group and an executive at Seoul's top fine dining restaurant, Moto, who does not tolerate even minor mistakes by his staff. The intense rivalry between Han Bum-woo and his older brother, Han Sun-woo (played by Bae Na-ra), the managing director of Larcel, competing to secure the third star of the Diamang Guide, heightened the tension.
To secure the third star before his brother, Han Bum-woo needed a unique and distinctive new menu, and after much deliberation, he decided to adopt Chef Jang Young-hye's (played by Hong Hwa-yeon) recipe for 'Nobiani.' However, just one day before the launch, Han Bum-woo heard that a similar dish was being sold at a restaurant in Jeonju and set out to find the restaurant directly to solve the problem.
Entering the charming atmosphere of the restaurant, Han Bum-woo inadvertently stepped on the precious napa cabbage grown by Mo Yeon-joo, the owner and chef, drawing disapproval. Moreover, his indifferent attitude and behavior towards the cooking put him in stark contrast with Mo Yeon-joo's values, leading to a negative reception from the very first meeting.
Meanwhile, Han Bum-woo's determination and passion to taste Mo Yeon-joo's 'Seopsanjeok,' which closely resembled Moto's 'Nobiani,' shone through. He flexed his resources at butcher shops to find the 'Udun' beef from Maewon Farm, and even climbed a mountain with Mo Yeon-joo to harvest mushrooms, sweating profusely.
Thanks to this unyielding effort, Han Bum-woo finally faced the 'Seopsanjeok' and devoured it as if possessed, stimulating the salivary glands of onlookers. Infatuated with Mo Yeon-joo's food, Han Bum-woo boldly proposed taking over the restaurant, but Mo Yeon-joo coldly rejected him, saying, "Do those crazy about money make food? Sell it?" This foreshadowed the challenging journey ahead for Han Bum-woo.
Although Mo Yeon-joo rejected Han Bum-woo's proposal, she was facing a crisis where her restaurant was overdue on rent due to financial difficulties and needed to vacate in a month. At the same time, Han Bum-woo was also left without a place to go after the board of directors at Hansang Food Field approved a motion to dismiss him. Curiosity is growing about what choices these two people, who are both on the brink of losing their places, will make.
'Tastefully Yours' showcased a delicious chemistry between Han Bum-woo and Mo Yeon-joo, who are both vying for the third star while carefully monitoring each other from the very first broadcast. In particular, the acting transformations of Kang Ha-neul and Go Min-si, who fully immersed themselves in their characters, not only amplified the appeal of their characters but also raised expectations for the relationship between the two as it unfolds in the future.
In addition, the thrilling developments that traverse laughter and tension, together with beautiful cinematography that pleases the eyes and exquisite dishes filled with skill and dedication from the chefs, provided an engaging experience that was hard to look away from.
