This summer, the film "Big Deal" (provided/distributed by SHOWBOX, produced by The Lamp), which opens the door to the peak theater season, has released a making-of video featuring behind-the-scenes details shared directly by the cast and crew.
The film "Big Deal," which deals with the story of Jong-rok, a financial director at a Soju company whose life revolves around the company, and In-beom, an employee of a global investment firm focused solely on results, confronting the fate of South Korea's national soju during the 1997 IMF currency crisis, captivates attention by unveiling behind-the-scenes footage from the filming set alongside the cast and crew's impressions.
The recently released video showcases the passionate performances of veteran actors and the detailed efforts of the crew during the production process and filming. Yu Hae-jin, who worked hard to bring out the human charm of the character Kyung-rok, described the film "Big Deal" as "a story where people who have made liquor and those who view liquor only as a monetary value continuously clash with opposing values," sparking intrigue. He praised Lee Je-hoon's clean charm portraying the result-driven global investment employee Choi In-beom, noting that the bromance between the two characters is naturally expressed, raising anticipation for their on-screen chemistry.
The compelling performances of Son Hyun-joo and Choi Young-jun, who possess robust acting skills, are also one of the important points of the work, and the impressions shared by each actor have drawn attention. Playing the role of the chairman of KUKBO Group, Son Hyun-joo conveyed, "I had no intention of wrapping up as a good person or compromising," revealing his anticipation for the villain he portrayed while raising curiosity about Son Hyun-joo's representation of a villain. Furthermore, Yu Hae-jin remarked about Choi Young-jun, who made his screen debut as the attorney Koo Young-mo with exceptional crisis management skills, saying, "He's an actor who expresses just enough without excess," while Lee Je-hoon mentioned, "I wonder if there's anyone who can portray Koo Young-mo realistically; he's incredible," further heightening expectations for his acting skills to provide a unique immersion into the film.
The intricate role of production significantly contributed to enhancing the realism and detail of the work. The new product "Top Soju" from KUKBO Soju featured in the film was born from collaboration with Bohae Brewery, and even in drinking scenes, the lighting and arrangement of characters in the same location created different atmospheres for each scene. Cinematographer Kim Sung-an stated, "It could be quite entertaining to see how the characters drink and with what emotions," and Yu Hae-jin added, "It would be interesting to discuss whether it's right for Kyung-rok to live his life or In-beom's life," suggesting that various elements of the work were completed through the sincerity and detailed efforts of the cast and crew. Additionally, the making-of video for "Big Deal," which includes valuable tips from each actor on hangover cures in the latter half, is expected to offer audiences fresh enjoyment through the acting combat of veteran actors.
The film "Big Deal," which amplifies expectations for the work by revealing the passion of the cast and crew through its making-of video, will be available in theaters nationwide on May 30 (Friday).
