Kian84, who challenged the Sherpa on 'Born to Travel the World 4,' was astonished by the intense labor.
In the first episode aired on Nov. 11 of MBC's entertainment show 'Born to Travel the World 4' (hereafter 'BTW4'), Kian84 was depicted heading toward the world's highest peak, Mount Everest, to meet an ethnic minority that lives in the Himalayas.
Arriving at Lukla, the starting point for trekking Mount Everest at an altitude of about 2,800 meters, Kian84 met Sherpas who were carrying loads larger than their bodies. The Sherpas solely relied on straps resting on their foreheads to carry their heavy loads. Kian84 couldn't hide his amazement, saying, "Wow, they really carry that on their heads. That's incredible."
Jang Doyoun remarked, "It feels like time has stopped" in regard to the surreal scene of cows and horses carrying loads in line, and Kian84 also noted, "It feels like a scene from an AI app or a fairy tale. It looks like a fairy tale from a distance, but up close, it's grim. I was curious about what their lives were like."
While walking in a car-free village, Kian84 said, "This feels like a path from 'The Lord of the Rings,'" but he also mentioned, "Walking for sure makes you feel the altitude. I'm out of breath, and I'm really hungry," as he searched for a restaurant.
Most of the restaurants were large and extravagant. Kian84 commented, "There are more tourists than I expected, so there are even restaurants that look like they're from Cheongdam-dong," and he added, "But when you travel, there's a local syndrome, so it feels a bit unfair to eat at a non-local place; isn't it the charm of travel to eat things you can't usually have?" as he looked for a local restaurant that serves only one menu item.
Kian84 met 18- and 20-year-old Sherpas at the restaurant. With his awkward English, Kian84 asked, "Can I join you in carrying loads as a Sherpa?" However, the Sherpas responded lukewarmly, saying, "It would be tough for those who aren't used to it."
Feeling his pride hurt, Kian84 emphasized that he had served in the military, stating, "I served in the army. I walked 30 kilometers with a 20-kilogram full military pack. I can carry loads with you. I'm a strong man."
In reality, the Sherpas' loads weighed 30 kilograms, more than the 20-kilogram military pack. Kian84, who was overflowing with confidence, was astonished since he had to carry the heavy 30-kilogram load relying solely on his forehead.
With no shoulder straps making it hard to balance, Kian84 expressed, "I want to help, but..." as he tried to find ways to carry the load. When a Sherpa mentioned that it would take 5 to 6 hours to reach the final destination, Kian84 exclaimed, "How do you do that?" While struggling with the heavy load, Kian84 worried, saying, "Does this lead to hair loss? If I carry this a lot, will I lose my hair? I have a friend whose hair has fallen out." The Sherpa reassured him, saying, "It doesn't fall out. It takes time to fall out."
While having to keep his back bent the whole time, causing him to adopt a turtle neck posture, Kian84 jokingly suggested, "If we catch middle school and high school students in our country who don't follow commands and make them Sherpas, they'll be completely transformed in just a month. We should discipline them like Sherpas." Eventually, as Kian84 resumed walking, he humorously remarked, "The more I go on 'Born to Travel the World,' the more curses I throw."
After reaching the destination in 50 minutes, Kian84 complained of a sore neck but expressed his respect for the Sherpas, stating, "I admire you all. If you live with this spirit, you will succeed in whatever you do when you enter society." He added, "Don't just work; study too."
After spending a night with the Sherpas at the lodging, Kian84 set out for the final destination. Determined to assist until the end, Kian84 did not put down his load and ultimately arrived at the endpoint, Napche Bazaar, after a grueling journey.
Meanwhile, while Kian84 struggled with the Sherpa challenge, Lee Si-eon and Pani Bottle enjoyed a luxurious meal in Nepal. Jang Doyoun, watching this, asked, "When will Dex appear?" and Dex retorted, "Isn't the main character not appearing?" Kian84 then said, "Isn't the main character actually me in this show? We need to start again," while Pani Bottle humorously added, "I thought I was the main character."
