The group MEOVV offers a deeper and broader musical world.
MEOVV (Su-in, Gawon, Anna, Narin, Ella) held a media showcase for the release of their first EP, 'MY EYES OPEN VVIDE,' at SBS Prism Tower in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, on the 12th.
Debuting in September last year, MEOVV has applied The Black Label's unique producing style, revealing the distinctive charms and artistic aspects of each member without reserve. Announcing a powerful start with debut single 'MEOW' and second single 'TOXIC,' MEOVV has caught attention as a front-runner among 5th generation K-pop girl groups, noted for their extraordinary aura and stage presence.
MEOVV appeared on stage for their comeback. Gawon said, "Our team goal is to show a different side of ourselves, and I think we can show that through our first EP, so I am looking forward to it. I hope those watching will enjoy it while we perform happily." Anna noted, "I'm happy to come back with songs we prepared since our trainee days. I hope people will love the new tracks as well." Ella stated, "I had a really busy time preparing for this album, but I realized how to do well. I think I will be able to show my potential through this activity." Narin remarked, "There are many things I'm trying for the first time, and I discovered many new sides of myself. I feel attached to this and think it will be memorable, but I expect to show various music and charms. I want to get closer to my fans as there will be many opportunities to meet them." Su-in mentioned, "We have a fandom name, and our first EP is coming out. I'm happy that I will be able to meet our fans often. I look forward to our upcoming activities."
In particular, before the release of their first EP, MEOVV released a pre-single, 'HANDS UP,' on the 28th of last month. 'HANDS UP' is a Brazilian funk genre track that combines a fast and flashy rhythm with distinct synth sounds, capturing global fans' attention with its addictive melody and stunning performance immediately after its release, while also climbing to first place in their first music broadcast on Mnet's 'M Countdown.'
MEOVV, which achieved first place in their first music broadcast after debut, said, "We are grateful and happy that you like the songs we prepared with so much love and effort. We are pleased to have reached first place with a song that conveys the message of moving forward confidently on our own path, and we thank our fans."
The title track of MEOVV's first EP is 'DROP TOP,' a song that sensitively portrays moving towards the world with their own perspective. Starting with a calm mood and incorporating pop elements infused with ROCK, Gawon participated in the lyrics for added completeness. Gawon explained, "This is the song we first recorded when we were trainees. It's the oldest song among our tracks. Freedom is key. It talks about enjoying this moment as it is the hottest right now. I recalled those moments while writing the lyrics. The precious moments for me were the times spent with the members, so I wrote with the members in mind."
Regarding the key choreography, Narin said, "There are many easy and simple dance moves to follow. The lyrics were interpreted intuitively, and the gesture of freely driving and a cool greeting gesture are the key points of this choreography. There's also a move where you draw a large star, so you should draw it as big and confidently as possible."
They also shared stories about the music video. Anna said, "There weren't many predetermined scenes, so we filmed freely as we wanted. I think our natural and comfortable looks came out nicely. Su-in, Gawon, and Ella had a scene flying in the sky with wires, while I cheered hard from below with Narin." Ella added, "I had to act playing with a butterfly during the filming. Since the butterfly was CGI, the director moved his fingers like a butterfly, and it was hard to hold back my laughter."
The first EP includes the title track 'DROP TOP,' as well as the debut track 'MEOW,' the second single double title tracks 'BODY' and 'TOXIC,' and the unreleased track 'LIT RIGHT NOW,' with each song showcasing different colors. Gawon and Narin participated in the lyrics for 'TOXIC' and 'LIT RIGHT NOW,' enhancing the album's completeness.
After focusing on singles, MEOVV is now releasing an EP album, along with a physical album. They stated, "Through this album, we plan to step into a deeper and broader musical world. It's an album that shows one world. We hope you focus on our image soaring high." Gawon, who participated in the lyrics for 'LIT RIGHT NOW,' commented, "I participated in the lyrics during my trainee days with Narin and producer Teddy. It happened spontaneously like a conversation, and the atmosphere of that time is captured rather than the concept or inspiration. Narin added, "It contains natural energy and aspirations."
Producer Teddy also participated in this album. Anna noted, "He said that to achieve good results during recording or music video filming, I should do as much as I want. We are grateful for the many opportunities he has given us." The members displayed strong confidence by recommending the songs included in their first EP album for various situations.
Narin, who is returning with their first EP, stated, "This time, we want to aim for the title of all-round cat. We want to show that we can handle various concepts well. By combining the endless charm of being versatile in singing and performance with the cat, which symbolizes our team, we want to be called all-round cats." Gawon added, "I want to grow into a distinctive and one-of-a-kind artist."
Meanwhile, MEOVV's debut first EP, 'MY EYES OPEN VVIDE,' will be released on various music sites at 6 p.m. on this day.
