Brown Eyed Soul's Youngjun is reinterpreting a classic song by Solid.
The second remake track of the HIGHKOLOR project is 'You are my first and last,' the title song from Solid's third studio album released in 1996. This represents a consolidation of two prominent Korean R&B groups from the 1990s and 2000s, continuing as one voice. This song, which made a transition in Korean-style R&B ballads with its sophisticated arrangement and emotional melody, is still referred to as a 'classic R&B song' in Korea and continues to receive love across generations.
The vocals for this remake are handled by Brown Eyed Soul's Youngjun. His simple and restrained singing style, combined with his sweet tone layered over deep emotions, brings a completely different warmth to the song. While Kim Jo Han explosively showcased intense soul in the original, Youngjun reinterpreted the original with a much lower tone, quietly reflecting on the lingering feelings and containing emotions.
Jeong Jae-yoon, a member of Solid, also revisited this song for the first time in 29 years. The original songwriter, Jeong Jae-yoon, participated in the arrangement to enhance the quality. He designed a sound that resonates more deeply with contemporary listeners while preserving the emotion of the original, delicately redesigning the rhythm, harmony, and arrangement of instruments to infuse modern textures without compromising the original's emotion.
The HIGHKOLOR team noted, 'This project is not just a simple remake but a restoration of emotions that connects generations, where the feelings of different eras intersect within one song,' adding that 'through Youngjun's voice, this song will come alive again as an emotion rather than a memory.'
Youngjun's reinterpreted version of HIGHKOLOR Vol.2 'You are my first and last (original: Solid)' will be released on the 18th (Saturday) at 6 p.m. through all online music platforms.
