'Salim-nam' delivered laughter, emotion, and tears, taking the top spot in Saturday overall entertainment ratings.
On the broadcast aired on 10th, KBS 2TV's 'Salim-nam (Season 2)' featured Park Seo-jin and his younger sister Hyo-jung's bucket list challenges, as well as Kim Sang-hyeok's spring outing with his mother for Parents' Day. The show recorded a rating of 5.7% according to Nielsen Korea's national tally, and a scene where Park Seo-jin retouched his newly taken ID photo showed a peak rating of 7.5%.
That day, Park Seo-jin revealed his daily life with his younger sister Hyo-jung, who had started a bucket list bet. Previously, Park Seo-jin had written down 'getting a bob cut' in Hyo-jung's bucket list and said, "The more painful the past is, the more you need to cut it off. There are memories with the English teacher and skiing instructor, and the disappointment of failing the high school equivalency test. When you experience something bad, change is necessary," encouraging Hyo-jung to transform her hairstyle. However, when Hyo-jung hesitated, he showed her pictures of Karina, Winter, and Kim Chae-won with bobbed hair, saying, "If you cut it, you'll look just like them. You are beautiful enough."
Consequently, Hyo-jung decided to transform her hairstyle after 10 years. Heading to the hair salon with Park Seo-jin, Hyo-jung expressed her intention to cut more than 25 cm of her hair, saying, "I'm going to donate my hair for children with cancer. My brother recently donated to wildfire relief funds, so I thought I should do something as well, and felt good about donating my hair."
Then, before the transformation, Hyo-jung cut some of her hair herself, while Park Seo-jin, who was watching, said, "I will start the cutting ceremony," and personally cut Hyo-jung's hair and helped with the shampoo. However, as Hyo-jung's bob grew more complete, Park Seo-jin jokingly teased, "It looks like a man got a bob. I've seen this kind of uncle somewhere. You look like Jeong Hyung Don."
After transforming into a bob hairstyle, Hyo-jung decided to make a passport to fill in the bingo on her bucket list and even took ID photos. She then resolved to challenge obtaining a Class 1 large license by visiting a driving school for consultation. Later, for her first demonstration drive, Hyo-jung held the bus steering wheel for the first time, causing Park Seo-jin to scream due to a small mistake, but she calmly finished her practice. The driving instructor, who watched, praised her, saying, "You are doing well. You have a good sense," adding to the anticipation for Hyo-jung's future challenges.
On that day, Kim Sang-hyeok visited his father's grave, who passed away when he was 11 years old, together with his mother for Parents' Day. Upon arriving at the grave, his mother shed tears, and Kim Sang-hyeok said, "My father loved spicy stir-fried pork when he was alive. When he was alive, I was too young at 11 to have served him food myself. I wanted to serve him the first dish I made myself," presenting the spicy stir-fried pork he had prepared.
While the mother and son reminisced about the past years and remembered his father, someone suddenly called out, "Sang-hyeok!" revealing themselves. This person turned out to be a close colleague of his father. The appearance of the colleague, who had also come to visit on the anniversary of the father's passing and had looked after Sang-hyeok's family instead of his friend who passed away first, brought tears to Kim Sang-hyeok and his mother. The colleague conveyed to Kim Sang-hyeok, "I should have visited more often. I'm so sorry for not being able to do so," and Kim Sang-hyeok replied, "I was quite surprised. At that moment, it felt like my father was coming to see me," and he became speechless.
The colleague recalled a tragic memory of the accident that led to Kim Sang-hyeok's father passing away when he fell into a basement construction site entrance that was not covered with a safety plate while cycling home. He stated, "When it was past midnight and Kim Sang-hyeok's father had not come home, Sang-hyeok's mother anxiously waited," adding, "We only received a call from the police in the morning." The accident involving Kim Sang-hyeok's father had shocked the community to such an extent that it was reported in the newspaper. He revealed, "Just like when a knife cuts, the initial pain doesn't hurt, but over time, the heart hurts more."
Then, the colleague handed over a photo taken with Kim Sang-hyeok's father and shared stories about him. He reflected, "Your father was like a white dandelion. Most dandelions are yellow, but occasionally, a white one sprouts up. A dandelion doesn't waste its roots and leaves, and he was such a person who stood out even among the yellow dandelions," adding, "It's regrettable that he left us too quickly."
Kim Sang-hyeok's mother also shed tears as she spoke for the first time in 32 years about what she had held deep in her heart. Kim Sang-hyeok held his mother's hand tightly to comfort her. Additionally, Kim Sang-hyeok hugged his father's colleague, confessing, "I don't know why, but it felt like a great comfort. I felt warmth, and I was able to feel a little bit of my father's lingering presence. Knowing that such an adult exists is so reassuring and I am grateful."
In this episode of 'Salim-nam,' Park Seo-jin and Hyo-jung's warm daily lives brought a sense of warmth, while Kim Sang-hyeok and his mother's poignant spring outing and the reunion with his father's colleague offered deep emotions.
'Salim-nam' airs every Saturday at 9:20 p.m. on KBS 2TV.
