Broadcaster Lee Sang-yong has died.
Lee Sang-yong passed away at 12:45 p.m. on the 9th. He was 81 years old.
Lee Sang-yong reportedly collapsed on his way back from a nearby hospital to his home in Seocho-gu, Seoul. He was transferred to Seoul St. Mary's Hospital but ultimately passed away.
Born in 1944, Lee Sang-yong debuted as a host on CBS Christian Broadcasting in 1971. While hosting the KBS children's song program 'Let's Sing Together' in 1975, he was nicknamed 'Popeye.'
In particular, the deceased had been active as a host on MBC's military welfare program 'Stage of Friendship' since 1989. As a result, he became well-known to the public as 'Popeye' and received great affection from military personnel and their families.
His survivors include his wife, two sons, a daughter, a daughter-in-law, and a grandson.
