Jenny from 'You Quiz' reminisced about her study abroad days in New Zealand.
On the broadcast of tvN 'You Quiz on the Block' on the 7th, superstar Jenny, who recently returned from Coachella, made an appearance.
On this day, Yoo Jae-suk mentioned, "While singing 'Starlight' on the Coachella stage, I choked up and shouted, 'I love you, Mom.'" To this, Jenny said, "I really promised myself. I wasn't going to cry. It was a last song, but since my mom was watching, I just came out crying, 'Waaaaah.' I can't even watch that footage of me wailing. I was wailing so much."
She further explained the reason behind the lyrics, "I just wanted to make my mom proud." She said, "The work I do is so glamorous and there is so much visibility, but it's very hard. I often blame myself and feel overwhelmed. When I think, 'What is my dream? Why am I doing this?' I remind myself that there's no reason to chase after anything else, but rather to live happily with my mom and be a proud daughter, so I made that a light inclusion in my work."
Yoo Jae-suk said, "I heard that your mother cried under the stage," to which Jenny replied, "I also confirmed that through the video. I guess I looked too pitiful."
She then added, "I thought my mom would be excited, but she just said, 'You worked hard, you worked hard,' and took photos before leaving. She had another schedule to attend."
Yoo Jae-suk then asked, "I can feel your love for your mother, but what kind of person is she?" Jenny replied, "My mom told me not to talk about her. I unintentionally said 'I love you, Mom' and many people ended up seeing it. It became so beautifully packaged. We are just an ordinary mother and daughter, but because of the huge interest, she said, 'Make sure to talk about Jenny today.'"
Meanwhile, Jenny opened up about the reasons she went to study abroad in New Zealand at age 10, saying, "As I became an adult, I had this conversation a lot. I think my mom just wanted to let me grow up in a broader world."
At that time, Jenny stayed alone in a homestay. She shared, "When I was young, I had to learn a language. I heard that my mom was with me for the first two months. After two months together, she returned to Korea and called me, but I reportedly told her not to call because I was busy playing. I also knew from a young age that I had to study a lot if I was in Korea."
Regarding her experience studying abroad, she said, "Studying in New Zealand suited me well. At school, if I sat and studied for one hour, I was allowed to play for two hours. I learned cooking, did art, and went on many nature experiential learning trips. I have loved playing and rolling around in the grass since I was young. Was there a place more suited for me than this? At first, I couldn't speak English at all. I learned English completely in six months through survival."
