Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, mentioned "When Life Gives You Tangerines," expressing his affection for K-content.
On the 7th, Candidate Lee held a meeting on the promotion of the K-content industry at a cafe in Jeonju, North Jeolla Province, where he met with directors Yoon Je-kyun and Jung Joo-ri, and writers Kim Eun-sook and Park Hae-young.
That day, Candidate Lee, in response to a question asking if there were any works or characters that influenced him in becoming a politician, said, "My life feels like a movie," making everyone laugh.
The candidate noted, "Rather than being influenced by movies, there are some moving scenes. Recently, I cried a lot after watching 'When Life Gives You Tangerines.'"
He said, "The female lead, Aesoon. My younger sister died in a bathroom in the early morning while working as a sanitation worker, and her childhood name was Aejah. The writer must have intentionally named her Aesoon," adding, "Aesoon's life represents the heartfelt lives of most ordinary people in Korea. The name was well chosen, and the content was well made. The acting was also very good. It was very moving."
He added, "I still like that movie. It's 'The Revenant.' In fact, during difficult times, I watched that movie and thought, 'I must survive.' Literature or movies, things like these have helped me a lot in my life."
"When Life Gives You Tangerines" is a Netflix series that depicts the adventures of Aesoon, a 'brave and rebellious girl' born in Jeju, and Kwan-sik, a 'clumsy oaf,' throughout their lives across four seasons, which was released in March.
