Jenny of the group Blackpink conveyed her deep bond with her mother, expressing her heartfelt feelings.
Jenny appeared on tvN's 'You Quiz on the Block' broadcast on the 7th, sharing various stories from her time studying abroad in New Zealand to her recent highly discussed Coachella performance.
On that day, Jenny revealed how she came to study abroad in New Zealand when she was 10 years old. She lived alone with a homestay in New Zealand and said, "After becoming an adult, I talked about this a lot, and I think my mom just wanted me to grow up in a wide world." Jenny shared, "When I was young, I had to learn a language. My mom was with me for about the first two months. After two months of being together, my mom returned to Korea and called me, but I told her not to call because I wanted to play. I think I knew a bit from when I was young. I thought that if I were in Korea, I would have to study a lot." She elicited laughter. Jenny, who found her studying abroad life quite fitting, explained, "When I went to school, if I was made to study for one hour, I was allowed to play for two hours and learned cooking, art, and a lot of nature experiential learning. I've liked playing around and rolling in the grass since I was young. Is there a place that suits me better than this? At first, I couldn't speak English. I learned it all in six months as a survival skill."
Previously identifying her mother as her driving force, Jenny also showed her affection for her mother during this broadcast. Remembering her emotional moment on stage at Coachella, where she sang "Starlight" and shouted, "Mom, I love you," Jenny said, "I really promised not to cry. It was the finale, and since my mom was watching, I just broke down. I can't watch that video of myself crying. I cried so much."
Jenny continued to explain the reason for writing the lyrics "I just wanted to make my mom proud," stating, "The work I do is so glamorous and visible on the surface, but it's really hard. I've been feeling guilty and overwhelmed, wondering, 'What should I do?' When I thought, 'What is my dream? Why am I doing this?' it reminded me that I just wanted to live happily with my mom and be a proud daughter, and there's no reason for me to chase something else. So I lightly included that thought."
At that time, Jenny's mother, who was watching the performance from the audience, was also captured in tears among Jenny's friends. Jenny remarked, "I also saw the video. I guess I looked really pitiful." She added, "I thought my mom would be thrilled, but she said, 'You've worked hard, you've worked hard,' and took pictures before leaving because she had another schedule." When asked what her mother is like, Jenny replied, "My mom told me not to talk about her. She said, 'You accidentally said, 'I love you, Mom,' and now a lot of people will see it. It has become beautifully packaged. We are a very ordinary mother and daughter, but since we have received so much interest, she said, 'Just talk about Jenny today.'"
Meanwhile, Jenny is scheduled to return with all of Blackpink in July. Blackpink will kick off their 'BLACKPINK 2025 WORLD TOUR' at the Goyang Sports Complex Main Stadium on July 5 and 6, starting from Goyang and heading to Los Angeles, Chicago, Toronto, New York, Paris in France, Milan in Italy, Barcelona in Spain, London in the United Kingdom, and Tokyo in Japan, covering a total of 10 locations.
