'Second Shot at Love' could break the slump of the tvN Monday-Tuesday dramas.
On the afternoon of the 7th, an online production presentation for the new tvN Monday-Tuesday drama 'Second Shot at Love' was held. Director Jang Yoo-jung and main actors Choi Soo-young, Gong Myoung, Kim Sung-ryung, Kim Sang-ho, and Jo Yoon-hee attended and faced the press before the first broadcast.
'Second Shot at Love' (written by Myung Soo-hyun, Jeon Ji-hyun / directed by Jang Yoo-jung / planned by Studio Dragon / produced by How Pictures), which will be broadcast for the first time on the 12th, tells the story of a woman who considered herself to be a very common drinker but challenges her first sobriety after reuniting with her first love, who hates alcohol.
Choi Soo-young plays Han Geum-joo, a 10-year veteran mechanic whose life goes awry due to alcohol and embarks on her first sobriety challenge. Choi Soo-young explained her character, saying, "I lived hard to survive in a place full of men. As a result, I started drinking more and fell into alcoholism. I can't sleep without alcohol, and I rely on it. Under my family's care, I am trying to stay sober, grow, and heal."
He continued, "While filming this drama, I reflected on what I might be addicted to. Everyone has their own addiction. I hope you all feel your addictions, not just alcoholism. I feel uneasy when I take a break from work. I hope many people can reflect and look back after watching this drama."
Gong Myoung plays Seo Ui-jun, Han Geum-joo's first love and the chief of the Bocheon Health Center. He said, "As I came to Bocheon Village as a doctor, I became a hopeful character. Thanks to my calm and reliable demeanor, I earned the nickname 'Seon-nim.' I thought about how to express the emotional flow because first love carries weight."
Kim Sung-ryung takes on the role of Kim Gwang-ok, the mother who declares war on alcohol against her daughter Han Geum-joo. He mentioned, "I haven't often played mother roles. This time, I become a mother of two daughters. I am as strong as a son's mother. I had fun bringing the character to life as it was chaotic. I'm a real mom of a son, so I was very happy to portray a mother of two daughters."
Kim Sang-ho plays Han Jeong-soo, a loving father who is the head of a family of alcoholics, doting on his wife and two daughters. He stated, "I'm looking forward to it. I was captivated after watching the trailer. It seemed so cheerful, cute, and lovely. I think it will be a work that brings happiness when you watch it after a day's work. I was happy. I felt good being with my wife and daughters, and I was also happy with the alcohol."
Jo Yoon-hee, who plays Han Hyun-joo, Han Geum-joo's sister, represents a character who relieves parenting stress and a hard daily life through small escapism with alcohol. He said, "For Han Hyun-joo, a drink after putting the kids to bed is a lifeline. While it might be sad to be a single mother raising twins after a divorce, it's not so dark thanks to my bright and cute family. I'm a character healed by my family, and I enjoyed making it relatable."
Choi Soo-young and Gong Myoung effectively portrayed the realistic romance between Han Geum-joo and Seo Ui-jun, leading to a cheerful atmosphere on set. Choi Soo-young skillfully acted in a high school uniform, and Gong Myoung emerged as the icon of first love with his refreshing visuals. The sparkling chemistry between the two is a key point of 'Second Shot at Love.'
Choi Soo-young praised Gong Myoung, saying, "I'm grateful for the chance to act in a school uniform and portray the looks of both a college student and an adult. I can't believe I'm acting with the first love icon. I might not wear a school uniform again, but I was happy to have the opportunity to express that era with him. The emotional connection was well established, and my co-actor was so considerate that I had no worries."
Gong Myoung responded, "Our chemistry was 120 out of 100. It was an honor and a fortune to meet such a dependable partner. We relied on each other a lot, so I think the chemistry will naturally come out in the work."
Director Jang Yoo-jung, who observed them closely, responded to the question about the "tvN Monday-Tuesday drama ratings pressure," noting, "It's quite unfamiliar and scary to receive a report card on ratings the day after the broadcast. However, the staff and actors did their best. I hope that the second episode will be loved more than the first, and the third more than the second."
Regarding Choi Soo-young, he praised, "Her acting in drinking scenes is the best in the country. In reality, she doesn't like alcohol much, but she expresses the aftertaste of wine, beer, and soju differently." To this, Choi Soo-young confidently replied, "I enjoy observing because there are many who like various drinks around me. There are seven members, including tequila lovers and makgeolli lovers. I have had years of observation."
'Second Shot at Love,' featuring cheerful healing chemistry, will premiere on the 12th.
