Kyuhyun of the group Super Junior reminisced about his time living in the dorm.
On the 6th, a new episode of 'Salodrip2' was released on the YouTube channel 'TEO' with the title "Beep-beep - The radar for the abyss has been activated."
Kyuhyun, who is appearing on Netflix's 'Devil's Plan: Death Room,' responded to Jang Doyoun's question about whether it felt unfamiliar, stating, "The production team of 'Devil's Plan' was there, so it wasn't unfamiliar." Kyuhyun noted that he had never worked on a fixed program with Jang Doyoun, saying, "I would like to do more programs, but there are limited entertainment options available." Regarding his participation in 'Devil's Plan,' he explained, "I received invitations through various routes. Four participants were selected from the general public, along with influencers, celebrities, and professional gamers from various fields. I received the invitation and, after some contemplation, agreed to participate. However, since I play the brain role in entertainment and Super Junior, I hesitated as it wouldn't be helpful if I got eliminated right away, leading to a mix of positive encouragement and pessimism."
Kyuhyun continued, "Watching the survival program made me realize that rankings don't depend solely on academic background. Although many prestigious universities were represented, I have a burden regarding my academic background. My father ran an academy, and throughout my school years, I was constantly reminded, 'If you can't go to college, the academy has to close.' I studied under everyone's expectations, but my inability to speak English still haunts me. I can manage Japanese and Chinese as hobbies, but I can't do English. So, while I respect those with strong academic backgrounds, I believe 'Devil's Plan' isn't a competition based on academic status; I'm confident my sharp wit will come in handy, which is why I participated." He added, "I'm glad I did it. Regardless of success or failure, the recent programs I appeared in were mainly focused on MCs or panels, and it felt like a long time since I could be seen as a player after 'New Journey to the West.'"
Kyuhyun commented, "You can think of 'Devil's Plan: Death Room' as the first season, but it's completely different. There are changes in the prison block. If it was just uncomfortable before, now the players from the prison block compete against each other for a death match. The eliminated players die in the game."
Kyuhyun specifically noted, "I had no information about the other participants. There is a Korean-American actor named Justin H. Min, whom I called 'Stin Hyung.' Since I can't speak English well, I kept my distance. However, there was always an interpreter, and since many spoke English well, we usually communicated in groups of three. I even recognized some familiar faces, and Lee Sedol really gave me chills. His actions and thoughts were so different that I understood why he is considered a legend."
Kyuhyun reflected, "After playing, I didn't feel foolish. I think I had a decent instinct," and he was cautious with his words, worried about spoilers. He shared, "I wanted to play actively rather than passively following the instructions of prominent players without expressing my own will, and I think I managed to stay somewhat active." Especially when he was referred to as 'the piper,' Kyuhyun joked, "A guy who is unnecessary?"
Kyuhyun shared, "I felt more seriously engaged in the game than I expected. It seemed like a bond formed among comrades, and I lost my composure, even showing anger and tears. I rarely cry, maybe just once a year, but I found myself crying in the restroom, hitting the wall. I cried so much in the shower booth, naked and without a camera, feeling so sad as if my friend had died. However, the production team seemed to have difficulty understanding, so I thought they might be psychopathic."
Kyuhyun mentioned that he doesn't speak much within Super Junior, saying, "I don't want to say much more, as everyone talks too much already." Kyuhyun said, "Since there are many members, I feel almost no sense of self. There are as many opinions as there are members. There have been many times when songs I liked were rejected, so I don't typically share my opinions anymore. With the 20th anniversary approaching, when it comes to singing, high notes have often come my way, so I refrained from expressing my opinions, even to the point of feeling like I was choking on blood."
Kyuhyun explained, "The members who often voice their opinions are Eunhyuk, Leeteuk, and Ryeowook. Heechul brings the laughter, while Choi Siwon shares serious opinions. Donghae tends to pretend he's not participating while still sharing his thoughts, and Yesung is also known for strongly expressing his views. I tend to be receptive to opinions." He continued, "I have lived in dorms as an idol for 18 years. When I joined, there were not many spots in the dorm, so I slept in a tent I received from a donut shop. With nine members living there, including four managers, space was limited. I lived like that for two months."
Kyuhyun added, "Yesung took care of me a lot back then and had a hobby of touching my philtrum. One day I woke up from sleep due to itching and found Yesung touching my philtrum, so I immediately moved to another room. The new room had just enough space between the beds for one person. Since then, Yesung has broken that habit of touching my philtrum."
