In the program "New Menu Launch: Ban Restaurant," actor Nam Yoon-soo drew emotional responses after sharing an X-ray of his abdomen showing a vacant space where one of his kidneys used to be, which he donated to save his father.
In the episode that aired on KBS2TV on the 2nd, Nam Yoon-soo revealed the deep surgical scar left on his abdomen after his kidney transplant along with the X-ray.
On that day, Nam Yoon-soo volunteered to donate his kidney for his father, who had been suffering from end-stage renal failure last year. He said, "My father was in stage 5 end-stage renal failure. The survival rate was only 25% with just dialysis," adding, "I told him I would donate first, fearing that he might pass away."
He also recounted the chilling experience of his father suddenly going missing the day before the surgery due to memory issues. Nam Yoon-soo explained, "He didn't even know where he was going. I felt like something terrible was going to happen," and added that this incident prompted him to make the decision for the surgery without further delay.
The attending physician noted the situation at the time, saying, "Nam Yoon-soo said, 'Please take good care of my father' before going under anesthesia. The entire medical staff in the operating room was amazed by his filial piety, saying he was truly an extraordinary son and could be called a national model son."
In response, Nam Yoon-soo stated, "Being called a model son is rather burdensome. I felt it was only natural. I just think I am grateful," and he wore a calm smile that touched the hearts of those watching.
Above all, the photo showed a hollow space where one kidney had disappeared, which deeply impressed many viewers with the gravity of his courage and decision. He also revealed the deepening scars from the surgery, further evoking strong emotions. Behind the glamorous facade of the actor, his genuine love for family was felt as deeply as the gap left by his missing kidney.
