Wonder Girls' Hyerim revealed her parents' house in Hong Kong for the first time, noting that her family operates more than five taekwondo studios.
The episode aired on the 30th on KBS2TV's variety show "Superman Is Back" (hereafter "Superman"). It depicted the family of Hyerim visiting her parents' house in Hong Kong. Hyerim was seen visiting with her first son Siwoo and husband Shin Min-cheol, while having her second son with her.
Fluent in Korean, English, and Cantonese, U Hyerim explained, "I spent my school years in Hong Kong, and my parents and relatives still live there. Hong Kong is my parents' home."
On the upcoming flight, Hyerim asked, "Should I practice Cantonese?" explaining the phrases "thank you," "hello," and "excuse me" to Siwoo. Already known as a language prodigy and a sports genius on broadcasts, Siwoo impressed everyone by easily mimicking Cantonese and even using it in real situations. Shin Min-cheol nodded and looked at his son, saying, "Siwoo is definitely a language prodigy."
In response, Hwang Min-woo exclaimed, "How did he memorize all that Cantonese?" expressing his astonishment.
After arriving in Hong Kong, Hyerim's family was warmly welcomed by her father Woo Jong-pil, who had lost weight, and Gong Jeong-ran. Hyerim noted, "Dad was shocked after watching the last broadcast. He said he had gained a lot of weight and had a bit of a belly. He has stopped eating carbohydrates," introducing her father as an impressive athlete.
Hyerim shared her feelings about revealing her parents' house in Hong Kong for the first time, saying, "I'm nervous." The upscale mansion features a gym, an indoor pool, an outdoor pool, and an indoor gym. The interior, which has three rooms and two bathrooms, has been refurbished with a Korean-style kitchen, despite the original kitchen being small as is typical in Hong Kong.
Park Soo-hong expressed his surprise, saying, "U Hyerim was born with a silver spoon!" Hyerim humbly responded, "My parents bought this house when the prices crashed during the IMF crisis, and now its value has increased tenfold."
Hyerim reflected happily on her room, saying, "I used to study at the desk by the window and checked the results of the JYP audition sitting there." Her mother, Gong Jeong-ran, explained, "This room was originally Hyerim's bedroom. Shin Min-cheol used to spend the night here too. But now it has become a dress room."
Currently training students at a taekwondo studio with his son, Woo Jong-pil recalled, "Back then, we were financially struggling, and I sent my eldest son to live with his grandfather in the countryside and cried."
Gong Jeong-ran reminisced, "Seeing Siwoo playing at the studio reminds me of when we lived at our dojo. With rent and the studio's monthly fees, we paid 10 million won a month 30 years ago. We could hardly make ends meet, so we lived in the taekwondo studio and used the bathroom instead of a kitchen," shocking everyone with her stories.
However, Hyerim reflected, "I remember that time. When I slept, I could hear rats squeaking from the ceiling and the sounds of things passing by," calling it a fond memory that brought tears to her parents' eyes.
