Kim Sung-cheol from The Old Woman with the Knife said about showing similar characters one after another, "It's fun when acting."
On the afternoon of 28th, an interview with the lead actor Kim Sung-cheol of The Old Woman with the Knife took place at a cafe located in Sokgyeok-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul.
The Old Woman with the Knife is an action drama depicting the intense confrontation between a legendary killer, Jogak (played by Lee Hye-young), who has been active for over 40 years in an organization that deals with cockroach-like humans, and a mysterious killer, Tuwu (played by Kim Sung-cheol), who has pursued him all his life. This film marks director Min Kyu-dong's return to directing after four years, spanning various genres including "Herstory," "All About My Wife," and "Yeogo Goeul: The Second Story." It previously received global attention by showcasing its world premiere at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival and has been officially invited to the Brussels Fantastic Film Festival and the Beijing International Film Festival.
Lee Hye-young plays the legendary killer Jogak, Kim Sung-cheol plays the mysterious rookie killer Tuwu, Shin Si A portrays Jogak's childhood nail, Kim Mu-yeol plays Jogak's mentor Ryu, Yeon Woo-jin plays the director of the animal hospital who connects with Jogak, Kim Kang-woo plays the head of a holy sanitation service that "catches pests and saves sick people," and Ok Jae-yeon plays the staff member of the holy sanitation service. Especially, Kim Sung-cheol even sang the OST that plays during the end credits of the movie.
Kim Sung-cheol noted, "I had a happy weekend since the media screening was held last week and everyone wrote good reviews," adding, "I have to meet the audience the day after tomorrow, and I sincerely hope it matches the feelings of those who have seen it first."
He mentioned that he filmed all the immensely strong characters, including Netflix series Hellbound Season 2, Disney+ No Way Out: The Roulette, and this The Old Woman with the Knife within the span of a year.
He said, "I filmed all these works within a year. Since the character I played in Hellbound 2 is still present, I thought, 'I want to do something similar to this.' That's why I wanted to do No Way Out, and then I decided to participate in The Old Woman with the Knife. Of course, there are differences, but I thought if I can handle the characters I can meet at this time at this tempo, I could create quite a decent character. I will look for a kind and lovely character that I might be able to do next year," he laughed.
In response to the question, "Usually, many actors who do intense works like Hellbound 2 want to break free," he said, "I did not feel mentally drained at all. That kind of character has such a strong deficiency that it's fun to act. The energy I can express is very high," adding, "The best reason for doing this work is that I can release my burning energy, which makes me very happy. That's why I love the stage so much. Since these characters are often not found in movies or dramas, I need to meet them when I can. I have to release energy to stay healthy, and I have done enough of that."
Meanwhile, The Old Woman with the Knife is set to be released on the 30th.
