The 'queen of daily dramas' Ham Eun-jung has returned with a revenge drama titled 'Time Slip.' She is determined to captivate viewers with its fast-paced 'Cider development.'
Actor Ham Eun-jung and Seo Jun-young attended the online production presentation for KBS 2TV's new daily drama 'The Queen's House' (written by Kim Min-joo, directed by Hong Seok-goo and Hong Eun-mi) at 11 a.m. on the 28th, expressing their anticipation for the new work. The presentation was also attended by Ham Eun-jung, Seo Jun-young, Park Yoon-jae, Lee Ga-ryeong, Lee Bo-hee, Lee Sang-sook, Kang Kyung-heon, Kang Sung-min, Cha Min-ji, and director Hong Eun-mi.
'The Queen's House' is a revenge drama in which a woman, who once firmly believed in her perfect life, fights to reclaim her life after it is completely taken away from her. The story revolves around Kang Jae-in (played by Ham Eun-jung), who was born as the daughter of a conglomerate but dreamed of a normal life, vowing revenge on those who robbed her of her happy life.
Director Hong Eun-mi stated, "I want to show something different from what we have always presented to the viewers. Given the nature of daily dramas, it's important to have a strong narrative flow, as we need to present the story to viewers over a long time. The writer has done a great job in writing an engaging script, and I think the key to directing is to bring that script to life in an entertaining way."
In the drama, Ham Eun-jung plays Kang Jae-in, the eldest daughter of the YL Group and the youngest Head of Team in the design team. Despite dreaming of an ordinary and simple life like others, she goes through a tragedy where her life is completely shaken due to the betrayal of a close person.
Having appeared consecutively in daily dramas such as 'Love's Twist,' 'Even if Tricked, a Dream,' and 'Substantially Us,' Ham Eun-jung is expected to bring fresh fun as this marks her first challenge in a revenge drama.
Ham Eun-jung expressed, "When I first received the script, I found it really interesting. I thought about wanting to participate in such an interesting script. The rapid development of the story makes it an attractive work. Viewers who enjoy daily dramas might feel a fresh shock, thinking, 'Is it really this tightly woven?' There are parts I want to build upon the script to make it even more entertaining. It was a script that made me want to be involved."
Ham Eun-jung is challenging her first revenge drama with 'The Queen's House.' She mentioned, "I have done many warm dramas, but this is the first time I am doing a revenge drama with a cold feel. As an actor, I have a desire to show a different side of myself, which is why I participated. Although she is born with a diamond spoon, she has a humble side and possesses a very warm heart. The part where her life begins to spiral down and she actively undergoes change is attractive. I think viewers will feel catharsis seeing that part, and I approached it with a passionate desire to do very well."
Seo Jun-young plays the role of Kim Do-yoon, a proud thoracic surgeon at Korea University Hospital. He is a character who walks the path of revenge after a shocking incident, despite having gained fame as a thoracic surgeon.
Seo Jun-young noted that the character he plays is one who is hiding anger, thus delicate emotional acting is important. He stated, "That aspect is the most challenging. During filming, I often talk with the director about this matter. In front of Jae-in, I wonder if I can express my emotions without the other actors knowing, so that only the viewers can perceive it. Despite the research, I am trying to show it in different ways with the director's guidance."
He added, "If I show it through my expressions, the other person will see everything. Therefore, I hope you pay close attention to my eyes. When my expressions are captured, I hope you focus on my eyes as much as possible," and co-star Ham Eun-jung mentioned, "As the relationship with Jae-in changes, I have a heart that is shaken alone. I hope you pay good attention to that part."
Park Yoon-jae plays the role of Hwang Gi-chan, Kang Jae-in's husband. Park Yoon-jae commented, "This is my first villain role in a KBS daily drama. I hope I am not very loved, as that would contribute to the success of the drama. Please turn off your interest and love for me. I would be satisfied if you hate me a lot."
Park Yoon-jae also mentioned his chemistry with Ham Eun-jung, saying, "I have been a fan of Eun-jung since her idol singer days and wanted to work with her. I have also watched her previous works a lot. I thought she is very stable as an actor during this project. Personally, I feel that our chemistry matches well, and I told Eun-jung that."
Ham Eun-jung added, "The first set scene was a kissing scene. It felt natural, and I said it wasn't awkward. Since we have communicated so well and have a good rhythm with each other, I think it's enjoyable."
'The Queen's House' is a revenge drama frequently seen in daily dramas, but it is differentiated by its rapid progression. Director Hong Eun-mi explained, "The differentiation of the revenge drama is not as crucial as the content itself. It matches the recent needs of viewers with an incredibly fast pace, making it almost impossible to look away. It can be casually watched, yet it grips the viewer's attention. Viewers must watch it live so they can discuss it the next day."
Park Yoon-jae also stated, "I have done many daily dramas, but I can confidently say that the pace of this one is such that you will wonder if it is even allowed to proceed this way with its speed and entertainment level" and Seo Jun-young added, "I have also done many daily dramas. Unlike typical daily dramas, viewers will feel 'When will the revenge start?' We will show it immediately, quickly, and as refreshingly as cider, so please show us a lot of love."
Ham Eun-jung also mentioned, "The rapid progression is so engaging that it feels like, 'Am I watching shorts? When is the time slipping by?' It contains very entertaining content, so I hope many people will watch it and come have fun with 'The Queen's House.'"
