A new claim has emerged regarding actor Kim Soo-hyun, who is embroiled in allegations of dating a minor.
On the 26th, Money Today reported that Kim Soo-hyun dated actor A, who is a former idol, for three years from 2016 to 2019. According to the report, Kim Soo-hyun and A developed a friendship as seniors and juniors in the same agency at the time, and it is known that Kim Soo-hyun broke up with A around the spring of 2019, three months before his military discharge.
Kim Soo-hyun became embroiled in controversy after allegations arose that he had dated the late Kim Sae-ron when she was a minor. The late Kim Sae-ron's family disclosed through the YouTube channel "Garosero Research Institute" (hereafter "Gaseyeon") that Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Sae-ron dated from late 2015 until July 2021, revealing photos of their physical intimacy and letters.
The late Kim Sae-ron and Kim Soo-hyun were born in July 2000 and February 1988, respectively, making them 15 and 27 years old at the end of 2015. This has led some to raise concerns about grooming crimes, and Gold Medalist, Kim Soo-hyun's agency, which initially denied the dating rumors, clarified through an official statement that while it is true that Kim Soo-hyun dated the late Kim Sae-ron, "the period was from 2019, when the deceased was an adult, until 2020." It was also stated that the photos of physical intimacy released by "Gaseyeon" were taken after the deceased had become an adult.
Later, the late Kim Sae-ron's side revealed messages that they claimed were exchanged between the deceased and Kim Soo-hyun in 2016 and 2018, but Kim Soo-hyun held a press conference on the 31st of last month and stated, "The individuals conversing in the KakaoTalks from 2016 and 2018 are different people. I aim to prove this fact by submitting the KakaoTalks from 2016 and 2018, along with the ones I exchanged with acquaintances this year, to a verification agency for scientific analysis. As a result, the agency concluded that the individuals in the 2016 and 2018 conversations are not the same person."
However, the inspection report indicated that "the sample size being analyzed is limited, and there are limitations in interpretation. Results may vary with a larger dataset," which raised questions about reliability. In response, Kim Soo-hyun's agency distributed additional materials on the 2nd of this month to clarify again that the photos and KakaoTalks released by "Gaseyeon" were from after the deceased had reached adulthood. Nevertheless, regarding a video from 2018 in which Kim Soo-hyun was seen eating chicken stew made by the late Kim Sae-ron at his home, he acknowledged, "It was indeed filmed in June 2018," but emphasized, "Kim Sae-ron visited me during my time off, and my family was also present. At that time, the two were not in a romantic relationship."
In this way, while Kim Soo-hyun acknowledges dating the late Kim Sae-ron, he finds himself in a situation with a stark contrast in position to the deceased's family regarding the timing. Amid this, a report claiming that Kim Soo-hyun was also dating actor A from 2016 to 2019 has emerged, bringing the controversy to a new level. Money Today cited a source from the entertainment industry saying that Kim Soo-hyun and A's romantic relationship was well-known in the industry, and since there had been several dating rumors, it claimed that "the possibility of dating the late Kim Sae-ron simultaneously is not possible." This statement also supports Kim Soo-hyun's position that he dated the late Kim Sae-ron from 2019 to 2020.
Following the news, public reactions have been mixed. While some believe that a "neutral stance" should be maintained, there are fans defending Kim Soo-hyun, insisting that the allegations of dating a minor are false. Additionally, some have raised the possibility that Kim Soo-hyun may have been dating both A and the late Kim Sae-ron, leading to ongoing debates.
Meanwhile, Kim Soo-hyun filed a defamation lawsuit against the late Kim Sae-ron's family and "Gaseyeon" for violations of the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, and he also filed a lawsuit demanding damages totaling 12 billion won. In an additional statement, he revealed that he had also filed a complaint against the operator of "Gaseyeon," Kim Sae-yi, for violations of the Anti-Stalking Act.
