Actor Kim Ji-sung revealed her dream as an actor.
On the 23rd, Kim Ji-sung had an interview regarding the end of KBS2's daily drama "Cinderella Game" at the OSEN office in Hapjeong-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul.
"Cinderella Game" is a drama that depicts the story of a woman who is used as a fake daughter by her enemy and becomes a Hwashin of revenge, realizing the true meaning of revenge as she grows and heals. First broadcast on December 2nd last year, "Cinderella Game" recorded a peak rating of 11.2% (99 episodes, Nielsen Korea nationwide) and concluded with its 101st episode on the 25th.
In the drama, Kim Ji-sung played the role of Gu Ji-eun. Gu Ji-eun is the younger sister of Gu Ha-na (Han Geu-ru), who works as a front desk employee at Hyesung Hotel after graduating from a community college's hotel management program. Kim Ji-sung portrayed Gu Ji-eun, who, while at times selfish and dreamily enamored with luxury, desires to meet a wealthy man to improve her fortune, with multi-dimensional charm, significantly contributing to the drama's popularity.
As Kim Ji-sung returned to the small screen after a long time, her family's reactions were also enthusiastic. Kim Ji-sung said, "My parents watched 'Cinderella Game.' They provided feedback over the phone, saying things like, 'This was good' or 'This was overdone,' which helped me. On the one hand, I could also be happy seeing my family enjoy my drama," and added with a laugh, "My younger sibling, being my acting partner, kept coordinating the script with me. Now they are performing in a play, and it seems they don't need my help as they haven't specifically asked me to coordinate the script."
As a character that couldn't be hated, viewer responses were also positive. Kim Ji-sung noted about the memorable responses, "The most common reaction was 'They're at it again,' and there were comments like 'I can't stand them,' but what stands out most to me was, 'Isn't such a reaction normal?' A scene where I hit with a lunch tray became a hot topic, and I also remember the realistic response that while she's always complaining to her sister, she can't stand others bothering her sister."
The chemistry with Han Geu-ru, who played her sister in the drama, was also significant. Kim Ji-sung said, "I learned a lot from my sister. She has a bright energy, and when she arrives on set, the atmosphere becomes lively. This made me think that I also want to be an actress with a bright spirit. Even though the shooting schedule seemed tough, I felt she was a 'true adult' because she didn't show it and led the way. My dream is to become an actress whom I want to film with, and I learned a lot by watching her."
With the hot responses and learning a lot from those involved in the project, Kim Ji-sung rediscovered her enjoyment of acting. She said, "These days, my biggest concern is what the next step is and which project I should encounter next. So I'm focusing on acting. Even when I watch other works, I think about what I could try next and practice accordingly. Coming back after 3 to 4 years, my passion has significantly increased."
So, what role and genre does Kim Ji-sung want to challenge in the next step? She stated, "I want to try playing a villain. Having shown a good role, I'd like to attempt a character at the end of the spectrum of evil. I also want to try a campus genre. I wish to explore this while I still have a college student vibe, as I might not get the chance to do so when I'm older."
After beginning as an actor following "Produce 101," and then transitioning to "Miss Korea," Kim Ji-sung has now returned as an actor. She said, "I've sent off Gu Ji-eun and am now living as Kim Ji-sung, and since I haven't had a lot of activities, I thank everyone for waiting and would like to show various aspects through better works. If there are people who like me, I want to become an actor whom everyone can recognize when they say, 'This is the person I like.' My current goal is to grow while taking on various challenges and to become an artist who is not ashamed to present myself."
