Actress Sung Yuri, a former member of the group Fin.K.L, is facing controversy as she resumes activities for the first time since her husband's legal custody.
GS Home Shopping recently posted a teaser video on its official social media account announcing the launch of a new program.
The figure introduced with the phrase, "Do you think you know who this is from behind?" was presented with the titles "Korea's legendary wannabe" and "original fairy." Keywords reminiscent of Sung Yuri, such as "Thousand-year Love" and "Healing Camp," were included as hashtags, establishing her as a strong candidate for the comeback.
Based on the figure's back and hints from the video, netizens quickly spread the reaction that "It must be Sung Yuri." One lending company even shared their impressions of witnessing the filming location on social media. The company noted, "It was fascinating to meet a celebrity at our place, and the shooting atmosphere was really good."
However, public opinion surrounding her comeback soon divided into two camps. While some welcomed Sung Yuri's return, critical views arose given that her husband, Ahn Sung Hyun, has been sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison for receiving tens of billions of won in bribes. Notably, the fact that she resumed activities just 4 months after her husband was taken into custody drew scrutiny.
Sung Yuri married professional golfer Ahn Sung Hyun in 2017 and gave birth to twin daughters in 2022. However, her husband has been embroiled in controversy for his alleged involvement in receiving 3 billion won in cash, two luxury watches worth a total of 400 million won, and a membership card to a high-end restaurant from Kang Jong Hyun, who is known to be the actual owner of Bithumb, from September to November 2021.
Additionally, last December, her husband was sentenced to prison, and Sung Yuri had temporarily suspended her broadcasting activities. Now, four months after her husband's incarceration, she has made a return.
However, criticism from internet users has been strong, and in fact, GS Home Shopping has deleted the related post as the controversy spread.
Meanwhile, earlier last year, Sung Yuri posted on her personal social media, saying, "I pray that the truth about the unfair and difficult situations our family is facing will be revealed."
