JYP Entertainment (hereafter referred to as JYP) has unveiled a teaser video for the new album of the boy group NEXZ, which was introduced six years after Stray Kids, showcasing a unique appeal that captures the Gen Z sentiment.
NEXZ (Tomoya, Yuu, Haru, Soken, Seita, Huey, Yuki) debuted globally on May 20, 2024, with the ambition of opening JYP's future alongside a new era and new generation. As the direct junior group of the global top artist Stray Kids, they are expanding their influence in the hearts of fans as a 'K-pop rookie' excelling in singing, rapping, performance, and visuals.
They credited members Tomoya, Haru, and Huey in the lyrics of the song 'Next Zeneration' from their mini-album 'NALLINA,' released in November last year, and they have demonstrated their musical capabilities and potential by participating in the choreography of the title track 'O-RLY?' and the included track 'Simmer' from their upcoming mini-album 'O-RLY?' set to be unveiled on April 28.
NEXZ drew attention on the afternoon of the 24th by posting the video 'NEXZ "O-RLY?" : Break in! (Directed by TOMOYA)' on their official SNS channels. The content, which heightened curiosity with a mysterious image of lips alongside the album timetable announcement, was revealed to be a teaser video for their new album directed by Tomoya, known as 'NEXZ's representative lip handsome.' The leader Tomoya, who is usually interested in content planning, has previously planned, filmed, and edited music videos for their debut song 'Ride the Vibe' and the B-side track 'Eye to Eye' from their mini-album. Tomoya, who possesses an extraordinary passion, even finds time to edit videos while on a busy schedule, has raised the teaser video before their first comeback in 2025 and increased attention for the group.
Members of NEXZ, busy practicing choreography in the JYP practice room, can be seen exclaiming "Good!", "Nice!" while Tomoya leads a sudden dance party showcasing impressive breakdancing skills, contributing to a lively atmosphere filled with excitement and energy. They are seen monopolizing the cafeteria menu, taking over the meeting rooms to play games or exercise, and sometimes falling into deep sleep. Riding toy cars around the parking lot, NEXZ stands out as a lovable anomaly of JYP, showcasing their distinct personalities.
The mood shifts toward the end of the video. In a darkened practice room, the members are collapsed on the floor, surrounded by various types of candy scattered around. Tomoya, barely opening his eyes, gazes at the candy and meets the camera's gaze with a meaningful smile. The previously released album introduction video also features NEXZ's signature character FOX2Y, who is seen dropping a green lollipop, raising curiosity about the connection between this album and the candy.
Meanwhile, NEXZ's second mini-album 'O-RLY?' will be available for listening on various online music sites at 6 p.m. on the 28th (Monday).
