Actress Ko Jun-hee shared the story of her tears during the egg freezing process.
On the 24th, the YouTube channel 'Ko Jun-hee GO' uploaded a video titled "I hope one day a child shows up and calls me 'Mom.' (an actual statement)."
In the released video, Ko Jun-hee revealed the process that led her to start egg freezing two years ago. He noted, "I hope this provides some help to those who have been curious about egg freezing or are contemplating 'Should I do it too?' and shared an honest story through the vlog."
As a single person, he visited a fertility clinic to undergo egg retrieval, but the results were different from his expectations. Ko Jun-hee said, "Right before entering the operating room, they tell me, 'You will get this many.' Usually, the basic amount is 10 to 15, and a close friend claimed to have had over 40. I was told I would only have 5, and suddenly, tears started flowing down my cheeks."
He continued, "My life so far flashed by like a film. 'What have I lived for?' 'Did I pursue fame and luxury only to ruin my body through dieting?' I thought. "
He had longed for a child in the past as well. Ko Jun-hee confessed, "In my mid-20s, I had a boyfriend, and I asked him if it was okay to have a child first. My mom was taken aback and told me to ask my dad about it. I had no intention of marrying, but I wanted to have a child. It didn't make sense, but at that time, I thought, 'I want to have a baby.'"
But reality was not easy. He lamented, "People around me said, 'Today's eggs are better than tomorrow's eggs,' so I hastily started (retrieval and freezing) unprepared and discovered that the expense was considerable. It's not covered by insurance, and unmarried individuals have a hard time receiving benefits."
The attending specialist noted, "It's true that the expense burden is significant compared to patients attempting standard IVF. You need to collect several eggs to increase the chances of pregnancy. Data shows that having around 20 to 25 gives you a chance of trying in vitro fertilization once."
Additionally, when asked by a filming staff member, "What did the doctor say today?" Ko Jun-hee responded, "I was told that it could go up to the 3rd or 4th cycle, so prepare yourself mentally" and added, "I don't know. My head is throbbing. It's not a simple matter," capturing attention with her despair.
