Go Youn-jung's transformation as a first-year resident is generating interest.
In the tvN weekend drama "Resident Playbook" (creator Shin Won-ho, Lee Woo-jung / director Lee Min-soo / screenplay Kim Song-hee / planning CJ ENM Studios / production Egg is Coming), which airs every Saturday and Sunday, the novice Oi-young (Go Youn-jung) is slowly blending into hospital life and showing signs of growth. This has prompted a revisit of Oi-young's upgrade process.
To pay off debt, Oi-young became a resident in the obstetrics and gynecology department at Jongno Yulje Hospital. With an indifferent attitude that seemed uninterested in the world, she attracted attention not only from her peers but also from seniors and professors. Because of her personality that insists on speaking her mind regardless of time and place, she caught the eye of Professor Seo Jeong-min (Lee Bong-ryeon), known for being tough, hinting at Oi-young's treacherous social life.
Adding to her troubles, the incessantly demanding work and the sly demeanor of fellow Myung Eun-won (Kim Hye-in) sparked Oi-young's desire to escape. Although she once thought about fleeing with her enormous baggage, the emergency signals ringing throughout the hospital held her back.
Worried about a patient with abdominal pain while on her way to the operating room, Oi-young couldn't take her eyes off the situation, while comforting a patient struggling before a major surgery further revealed the warm heart hidden behind her seemingly indifferent expression. Especially, the experience of witnessing her first childbirth left an unforgettable and intense impression on Oi-young's mind.
Moreover, Oi-young, who had been repeatedly saying "Me?" surprised everyone by stepping into the operating room and assisting Professor Seo Jeong-min (Lee Bong-ryeon) with the suturing instead of Chief Gu Do-won (Jung Joon-won). After the surgery, Professor Seo Jeong-min praised Oi-young by saying, "You have great hands," suggesting that the perception of Oi-young had shifted from a problematic individual to a promising talent.
Above all, the process of Oi-young, who was inexperienced in social situations to the extent that her sister O Joo-young (Jeong Un-seon) worried about her, becoming friends with coworkers and colleagues was heartwarming. Ignoring Kim Sa-bi (Han Ye-ji), who disposed of a post-it note with her work details due to jealousy, Oi-young took the initiative to reach out first.
Additionally, Oi-young's straightforward interest toward her crush, senior resident Gu Do-won, is rising the excitement levels among viewers. Oi-young finds herself irresistibly drawn to Gu Do-won, who protects her from misunderstandings caused by Myung Eun-won and comforts her over mistakes made in the operating room.
For Gu Do-won, Oi-young expressed her affection boldly by sending him honeyed glances and suggesting they eat frozen pork belly, even taking his hand first during a group photo session, which heightened the tension. As a result, the dual aspects of medicine and romance in Oi-young's social life have become even more intriguing.
The tvN weekend drama "Resident Playbook," following the journey of novice Go Youn-jung as she challenges the formation of human relationships, airs every Saturday and Sunday at 9:20 p.m.
