Child actress Sophie Niewaid has died at the age of 24, reportedly while pregnant, adding to the shock. The family recently announced that Sophie Niewaid, who became famous for playing the daughter of Michelle Williams in the 2009 film 'Mammoth,' passed away on the 14th (local time) at the age of 24. The late actress was found in the woods in Bennington, Vermont, about 25 miles from her home in Manchester Center, United States.
According to the death certificate obtained and released by People magazine on the 24th (local time), Niewaid was pregnant at the time of her death. Her pregnancy news was first reported by TMZ.
Niewaid's pregnancy status, particularly the duration of her pregnancy, has not been clearly revealed, but sources familiar with the investigation told People that she appeared to be in early pregnancy.
Bennington police stated in a release to People that they are investigating Niewaid's cause of death as a "possible unintentional overdose."
Meanwhile, the family noted, "Sophie was a kind and trustworthy girl. Because of this, she was often easy for others to take advantage of. She wrote and painted with great passion. Most of her paintings depict her deep inner self and express the pain she experienced."
They mourned, saying, "Most of her writings and artworks are a roadmap showing her hardships and trauma. Despite such a roadmap, diagnosis, and her own confessions, those closest to her, therapists, law enforcement, and others who tried to help, lament that their efforts could not save her from her fate. Furthermore, they detailed that she engaged in self-healing to overcome the deep trauma and shame she harbored within but had no choice but to reject treatments that could have saved her life." The family also stated, "She seemed happiest becoming someone else on set. It was a safe space for her, and she was happy thanks to the actors and crews who nurtured her talents and happiness." They requested fans to donate to Rainn (the national network against rape, abuse, and incest) instead of gifts or flowers. Niewaid made her acting debut in the 2006 film 'Bella' and subsequently appeared in 'Law & Order,' 'And Then Came Love,' 'Margot at the Wedding,' 'New York City Serenade,' 'Shadows and Lies,' 'Mistakes Were Made,' 'Born Again,' and 'What Would You Do.' The late actress appeared in seven films before the age of 10. In 2010, upon witnessing her performance in 'The Invisible Sign' alongside actress Jessica Alba, film critic Janet Catsoulis praised Niewaid, stating she would have "a shining future." The late actress's mother is actress Shelly Gibson, who appeared in films such as 'Dust to Malibu,' 'Saint Elsewhere,' and 'All My Children.'
