On the broadcast of tvN's entertainment show 'When Life Gives You Tangerines' aired on the 23rd, actor Choi Dae-hoon confessed his inner feelings.
Recently, as a major trend, Choi Dae-hoon, who left 'The Man from Nowhere' as the top catchphrase of the first half of the year and showcased his distinctive presence in 'When Life Gives You Tangerines' appeared. In fact, Choi Dae-hoon, who plays the villain in the drama, has portrayed both the young Baek Sang-gil and the middle-aged Baek Sang-gil. He mentioned that the bicycle scene resembled the outfit worn by his father before he passed away. It was a scene that brought tears to his sisters living in the U.S.
In fact, Choi Dae-hoon has deep roots in the theater scene. He had to endure 18 years of anonymity. Currently, he expressed that he feels "It seems like spring is here for me." He said, "I'm so sad to have to let go of such a bright spring. However, I have to prepare for the next season, but I find it difficult as I want to continue playing in spring," and added, "I said let's enjoy it only until the 'Baeksang Arts Awards,' and wait for another spring. After experiencing that it comes after waiting, I gained strength." This reflected the fruits of his efforts and patience.
When asked about the person he remembers most, he immediately thought of his "father." Choi Dae-hoon expressed deep regret, saying, "I feel burdened that I could not show this moment to my father." It turned out that his father collapsed due to a cerebral infarction and cerebral hemorrhage. Choi Dae-hoon recalled with guilt, "He collapsed while sleeping. I covered him with a blanket as he was sleeping on the floor, but the next day, my father was mumbling. He already missed the golden time."
Regarding his father, who suffered for 11 years, Choi Dae-hoon recalled, "I took care of my father from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.," and confessed, "One day, I thought that it would be better to live like this…I had some bad thoughts." Unfortunately, his father got infected when COVID-19 broke out while he was in a nursing hospital, and Choi Dae-hoon found himself unable to enter the hospital. Ultimately, his father passed away.
Choi Dae-hoon said, "I couldn't believe it when they told me my father passed away, so I wasn't even sad. I had to go to the crematorium right away," and shared, "I asked a junior living nearby to go with me because I couldn't go alone." He added, "I couldn't even bid farewell with a proper coffin, and it made me cry that my father's last journey felt so miserable."
When asked what it would have been like if his father were alive, Choi Dae-hoon expressed regret, saying, "If my father were here, I would have bought him a big van and hoped he enjoyed things like Notion." He shared that he would have liked to spend happy times with his father when many people recognized him, saying it would have been nice to walk together while hugging each other through flower paths. Lastly, Choi Dae-hoon wanted to convey his deep affection for his father, stating, "I want to proudly say, 'This is my father,'" leaving a moving impression.
