Singer Bobby Kim publicly revealed his love story with his wife for the first time.
Bobby Kim recently held an interview at a cafe in Mapo District, Seoul, to commemorate the release of his new mini album 'PART OF ME' and discussed his new album.
Bobby Kim joined the ranks of married men after marrying in 2022. He first met his wife 12 years ago during his concert tour, where he became acquainted with a singer and a concert planning official, and later developed into a romantic relationship in 2020, culminating in their marriage after two years of dating.
On that day, Bobby Kim caught attention by revealing his fateful love story with his wife. He explained, "My wife was part of the staff for my concert in Hawaii in 2010. I fell in love at first sight there. My stylist sister got close with my wife, and she came to Korea. So she started working under the stylist. We met briefly then. It didn't last long, less than a year. I was too busy, and with a 15-year age gap, we ended up breaking up."
Since they worked in the same industry, there were times when he ran into his wife. He recalled, "After I made my comeback in 2019, she appeared in my dreams twice. Whether you believe it or not, it was like a movie. (Laughs) At that time, out of the blue, I received a text from her, congratulating me on my comeback and asking how I was doing. I said I was doing well and asked where she was, and she said she went back to Hawaii."
He continued, "At that time, I didn't know if she had a boyfriend or if she was married, but since she appeared in my dreams, I suggested going to Hawaii. She said she would come to pick me up at the airport. We met and had a meal, and until then, we were just like brother and sister, but on the last day, I proposed. She said she had no idea how I felt. After a long conversation, I thought if I didn't do it here, I would live my whole life single. I proposed because I wanted to live together for life. That was around the time COVID-19 started to break out. So we kept dating over the phone and, by the time the pandemic ended, she came to Korea, and we got married in 2022."
After making his comeback in 2019, Bobby Kim noted that his married life played a significant role. He said, "As a husband, I had to adapt to my music career. I realized I had to work harder as the head of my family with my job in music requiring focus. In the past, music was free, but now it's my job, and I need to work hard to create stability for my family. There's no pressure. I'm participating in entertainment that I don't want to do, trying to be active. I'm also working on new music that will be released next."
When asked about children, he replied, "After getting married, I felt that I needed to settle down first before thinking about it. The adjustment period took a long time. Only now am I gradually thinking about having kids."
Earlier, he had expressed a desire to give up music, but he said, "After getting married, I realized that music is all I know, and that responsibility actually broadens my mind. I thought giving up was foolish. I realized that there are still things I want to do, and that thought was foolish. I want to keep making music until all my teeth are gone. I want to have concerts even with a cane."
He also spoke honestly about his title 'Soul lend,' stating, "It's very burdensome. When I was with the group BugaKingz, they called me the hip-hop lend, which was also very burdensome. I'd prefer to be just an old soul man, like a rap grandpa. (Laughs) I appreciate the respect since I've been making music for 30 years, but I don't think I deserve to be called a lend. I am still in a position of learning and working hard. Unless I retire, the title lend feels too burdensome."
Bobby Kim, who selected 'The whale's dream' as the best song that helped him escape obscurity, shared his future dreams, saying, "I want to remain an artist who is not stuck in a boring image and can show different sides that I haven't shown before, so that people will always anticipate something new and won't get tired of me."
