'Holy Night' Seo-hyun said that all characters are appealing except for her exposure performance.
On the morning of the 23rd, an interview with lead actor Seo-hyun was held at a cafe on Samcheong-ro in Jongno District, Seoul.
'Holy Night: Demon Hunters' (written and directed by Lim Dae-hee, distributed by Lotte Entertainment, produced by Big Punch Pictures and Nova Film) is an occult action film where a city thrown into chaos by a group that worships evil is saved by a team of dark fixers with special abilities: 'Holy Night' Team Bao (played by Ma Dong-seok), Sharon (played by Seo-hyun), and Kim-gun (played by Lee Da-wit) who eliminate the evil forces.
With previous films achieving triple 10 million viewers—'The Outlaws 2' (12.69 million viewers) in May 2022, 'The Outlaws 3' (10.69 million viewers) in May 2023, and 'The Outlaws 4' (11.50 million viewers) in April 2024—Ma Dong-seok's new work is generating powerful box office prospects every spring. Having set the unprecedented record of 'six 10 million films,' Ma Dong-seok participated in the planning, production, and leading roles, also gaining attention as an occult action film. With the delightful chemistry between Ma Dong-seok, Seo-hyun, and Lee Da-wit, along with refreshing and exhilarating exorcism action never seen before, it is expected to succeed at the box office and has already reached first place in real-time ticket reservations based on the integrated ticketing platform ahead of its release.
Seo-hyun passionately played Sharon, a powerful exorcist who can sense and repel any demon. From outfits, hair, makeup, accessories, to nails, with intense colors and intriguing designs, she appeals a strikingly different image never shown before. This is her screen debut.
This year, interest is high for Seo-hyun's ongoing projects including the film 'Holy Night' and the new KBS2 drama 'The Male Lead's First Night' premiering in June.
Seo-hyun has been loved for her upright, model student image, but she transformed into a completely different character in the film.
Having debuted in 2007 as a member of the girl group Girls' Generation and active for nearly 20 years, Seo-hyun noted, "There is nothing to fear in my life now. I have become stronger through numerous experiences. I'm not easily scared. The image of being upright fits me. While I have a clear line within myself, there are many things I want to challenge in acting and many aspects of my personality that I haven't shown." She added, "When I meet people, they often say 'You are so different from what I imagined.' People still remember only my past image from 15 years ago with Girls' Generation. I haven't participated in a fixed variety show recently, nor have I exposed my current self to the public, so they tend to think of me as I was before. In a way, I understand that. But I said, 'I like it better this way.'
Regarding this, she explained, "I have various sides to me, so I can show them anytime. If those come out, people would be surprised two or three times more. I'm grateful that I can show that through acting." However, she emphasized, "It's not easy to forcefully say 'I have changed.' It's a natural transformation, and I think it's normal to have both similarities and differences compared to the past."
When asked, "Can I challenge all performances, including those of a murderer, psychopath, and exposure?" she replied, "Except for exposure, I can do everything. I don't like exposure. I have a clear line within myself that leads to that. Acting has no limits for me. It's so fun to do what matches my personality, and it's also fun to try different things."
Seo-hyun has navigated the entertainment industry without any incidents or accidents since her debut. She remarked, "It's not easy to appear as if it is so. I've lived by saying, 'I will not be shaken by the tumultuous world, and no matter who touches me, I will walk my own path.' (laughs) It's difficult to maintain this. I believe I will continue on my path even if someone tries to shake me. It took me 20 years to get to that point. No matter how shaken, I'm now like a rooted tree, so unless the roots are pulled out, it's hard to change." She added, "The support from my parents has been huge to get to this point. No matter how tough things get, knowing there's a place to go back to is significant. My parents have been a strong root and fence for me. Additionally, books have had a great influence. They helped me gather my heart."
Meanwhile, 'Holy Night: Demon Hunters' is set to be released on the 30th.
